Does anyone have any insight as to which PH monitor/probe is better - Milwaukee or Pinpoint?
Thanks!

Don't have an answer for you.Would just like to tag along and see what others have to say.

Im using pinpoint and I'm pretty happy, but I need to check for calibration again...

Not wanting to appear too stupid here but.......

what does "calibration" mean with respect to a pH monitor? Here's my best guess.... the calibration solution somehow allows you to "set" the monitor to give you as accurate a reading as possible, right?

If this is accurate, how often do you have to "calibrate" it?

Thanks again for your response and patience with my obvious ignorance!

Shawnna, I believe you're right about the calibration. I don't have a probe myself, but they do need to be calibrated to a certain pH periodically in order to give accurate readings. Hopefully someone with more first hand knowledge than myself will chime in as to how often they need to be set.

I use a pH probe on my aquacontroller. I calibrate it every 3 to 6 months. You use calibration fluid. A 4 pH and a 10 pH ... others use a 7 pH and a 10 pH for calibration. You calibrate using both indicators and then the unit will use the two data points for the calibration of the probe. Does that make sense?

Sure does! Thanks so much for your help! I've had my tank up for a year but had a pretty significant crash (self-inflicted unfortunately) about 3 months ago so I really am starting over again. Only now I have that experience under my belt and feel like I'm going about it the right way. I have a new RO/DI unit that I use and am dripping kalk. The pH monitor is my next step on this.

Thanks, again!

milw vs pinpoint

I have a Pinpoint PH monitor and it seems to work fine. I am in the process of buying a Milwaukee PH controller. Everything I've heard indicates Milwaukee's are just as good and the costs are cheaper. Cost is an issue, so I'm going with the Milwaukee. I think they are a newer company trying to grow and erode Pinpoint's market share. Hope that helps.
