Springtime in the reef!:)

Our (hundreds?) of mini stars decided that TODAY WAS THE DAY!!! (to procreate)
Which meant EVERYONE crawled out of thier holes all at once :eek2:
Started standing up on their tippy-toes
then twisting, swaying, squirming and then....
{insert funky 70's baseline here  } "releasing" wisps of purple goo.

I feel bad for everyone else in there...the whole tank is cloudy w/ a slight purple tint to it now.
It's the first time the tank has been dirtier AFTER a WC!

Sorry for the burry pics (they didn't "pose" for very long--if you know what I mean....)

You know, this is a family forum. You really shouldn't be posting photos of these kinds of acts. :)

Cool catch, though! Good thing you had a camera handy. I love this digital age.

Yup, it was pretty cool to be there when it happened.... But today it's "the morning after" syndrome...

All that spawn in the water must have been too much for my little T. Crocea---it died sometime last night

(Woke up to find an open gaping shell, no mantle, and liquid clam remains inside.... :-( )

I'll have to keep an extra-close eye on the tank today (and probably make up a whole nother batch of WC water) ....but everyone else seems to be okay.

thats crazy......

i woulder if all mine will do that one day.....

almost every where you look in my tank you see them hanging out. diffrent kinda but brittle star.... thats so cool

so are you going to be getting rid of the offspring?

Doubtful--wouldn't know how to catch them if I wanted to.

Natural selection will take care of most--finite space, finite resources....

Right now I call them my "1-armed clean-up crew". (Cuz that's normally all I ever see--1 arm at a time poking out of thier holes...)
But after this spawning, I might have to start caling them my "thousand-armed clean-up crew"!!
They'll stay small--but I bet if all those stars were stacked together... well, they'd probably weigh more than my fish!:p
