Mistakes #..........how to not set up a Calcium reactor

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

The cylinder on my reactor did break on the top. Maybe you can see the pictures. The Battery was low on my camera.
I can see lines going upward in the acrylic.

Thats fixable I'd just just a 1/4" off the tube and recut the groove and stick it back together. If your seeing striations then I would be concered about it being extruded, so I'd put in the extra effort to fix it right.

I hope others learn by this. After you test with water for leaks with your reactor, always crack your valve to effluent open before turning on CO2.

Great advice. There should be a warning label like this stuck on the reactor.

Glad to hear you alright. There'd be no more funny gifs without you.

Ed, sorry to hear about the blown to pieces Rxr. Glad you are in one piece still. It looks as if it should be easy enough to repair.

At 1100 psi in a fresh co2 bottle its pretty simple for a thing like this to happen.

I was thinking more from a water pressure, never thought about the CO2. needle valve open all the way and open the main valve.... I could set now..
