Mogul Socket? Or Hqi Socket?

Hi anthony, At first i thought i would message you but remembering last time that you suggested me share this knowledge that you share with me with everybody else. So here my question begins:

As you know i've been asking you various questions about my new frag tank i'm starting. Well updates on that, I've got 45 lbs of new 90% coralline covered LR curing in the 25 gal tank. As i've asked you before you had told me VHO's would do perfectly fine in an 18" depth tank.

I recently found a very good deal on an icecap 250 metal halide ballast. Thus i have to go with metal halide, due to the fact that during this summer i'm planning on upgrading my tank to a bigger one. My question for you today is as a frag tank:

Would you suggest either HQI ended or Mogul socketed Halide setup?
- I know that HQI setups require the tempered glass for protection from UV which decreases the output of the unit. Therefore moguls do not need tempered glass and output the entire wattage.

Knowing that I will be using this tank as a frag tank, Later on during the summer while i upgrade my tank i will be needing this fixture to be on my new tank.
Question is:
Would you still suggest using HQI or Mogul Socketed on my display transfering this old MH unit from my frag tank?

What exactly is the difference between Mogul and HQI?
-I know that HQI is alot more stronger than Mogul.
-Obviously one is 2 socketed and the other is one socketed.

Anything else? Please recommend either HQI or Mogul socketed and why.

no worries... and to answer the question, it is probably better for you to focus on the species being kept to then know what the best color lamps would be and then select from among the better named brands.

Hmmm... for such a garden variety mix, you will be best with a 10k K lamp perhaps. Check prices and availability here with XM, Ushio, AqualineB

boy i've read alot of articles from 2:44 till now, and people have said mixed thigns about these halide sockets either double ended or single. I have read that the 250 watt has shown no difference in either HQI or Mogul. I have read that the 150w HQI > 175w Mogul. I'm confused. Clarify please anthony. Which is better, HQI or Mogul????

both really can work just fine. Mogol has been time tested and very good. HQI is hot and new. All corals will have to adapt to new light regardless... please do not obsess on this point. Any decent brand/lamp will do. Focus on high PAR readings.
