I have been searching around online and can't seem to find an answer to my question. Can you mount an Iwaki40RLXT any other way than flat??? Does anyone here have their Iwaki mounted in an odd way?? It would really fit in under my stand a little better if I mounted it sideways on the back wall. TIA!

I once mounted a little giant upside down to my stand, had no problems, you just need to make sure the inlet will hold water to prevent cavitations.

In general you can mount them with the inlet pointing up. I've seen warnings about cavitating if mounted with the inlet down. In theory if you could get it primed when mounted inlet down it might be fine, but I would not risk the longer term headache of having it loose its prime.

If you mount the pump in any way that water would suck air, that is called cavitations, the impeller Must be completely submerged underwater at all times, even while off, this way when you turn it back on it will still be primed, closed loop means the entire loop will always hold water, with exceptions, it should be air tight also in theory.

So I wouldn't be able to mount the pump above my sump??? For space reasons, my husband and I were going to try to mount the pump flat on a shelf above the sump.

No you shouldnt mount it above the water level. The pump will not work right if it dosn't have the water gravity feed into the intake. It would need to be primed to work and every time you turned it off it would lose that prime and would be prone to cavitation which will damage your pump.

Well I'm glad I posted my question becasue I would've gone ahead and mounted it above the water if I hadn't been told otherwise. Thanks for the help!
