go with the lumenarcs I just got mines from a trade i had 400w 20k xm with pfo pendant and now I have 250w with the lumenarcs pendant with 12k reeflux hqi bulbs the tank is much brighter with the lumenarcs even though its a 250w and spreads the light better imo, but it also looked great with the pfo pendant if I had to choose between the two I definately pick the lumenarcs.

rsocoe thatnks for the heads up!!! I think I am going to go witht he lumenarcs, it just means more saving for more spending. Heres a qiuck break down of the equipment that I still need just to get the tank running! then I still have some add ons that are going to take a little while to gather! (possibly a shuran pico reactor)

after I get all this together I still need to design a sump and have it built, so there is a ton of stuff that i still need to do in order to get this thing going!!! I drew up a possible sump but dont know how effeicient it would work...tell me what you guys think? I dont have alot of room under the tank and still have to fit the dart pump with all the 4 way plumbing so I thought 24x18x16 should do it. the only thing is my skimmer is pretty big so a standard left to right sump is not going to do it...heres what I drew up

Take your time and plan everything right i learned my lesson the hard way but now I have a tank almost simalar to yours is glass 34''wx32''lx19'' tall although I'm not planning a closed loop. I plan to use a sea swirl and 2 koralia k3 or k4 one on each side of the sea swirl. So I'm taking it slowly because I have a 40b set up that i'm very fond of right now. Best of luck on your project tigerarmy.

bump for any other opinions on the sump design...I dont know anything about designing sumps and thought this might work.

I dont have an opinion on the sump design yet but.... I would not buy the JBJ ATO. I have never heard any praise on them. I would buy a dual float switch system from either,
http://www.home.earthlink.net/~dwacker/ or http://www.autotopoff.com/
These two companies, from my understanding, have a better rep. and are less expensive

Wierd I just noticed that link. When did it start showing the that server?
Use www.reefwerks.com that link wont work after the main server is back on line.

Thanks
Don

I had 2/ 250 - 10K mh on mine...added a bar with t5's (blue)....still I wasn't quite sure about the color. I then took out the 10K halides and replaced them with 250 - 15K's. I don't know if the other halides were underperforming or if my corals just like the new ones because everything seemed to "burst" open and bloom within the first 2 days. Plus the 15K's don't have that "tanning bed" white harshness as the 10K's I was running.

Just a thought on the Luminarc 3 mini...I have one over my 40 breeder frag tank, which is 36x18x16... just ONE of those reflectors is a hella lot of light. You may only want to go with one too!

thanks for the follow up guys!!! Kirk Im thinking you are probably right but I love the overkill look :) j/k do you have any shadows in ythe corners of your taqnk? or darker areas that are not so well lit?

I also have only one 250w hqi lumanarcs over my 40b it is alot of light. Just as much light or more than when I had a 400w pfo pendant over it. Those are some great reflectors well worth the dollars.

No comments on sump, but as far as lighting, I also use two Reflux 12k bulbs. I like them and even though I have actinic lighting, I do not use it.

It keeps my energy consumption down as well as less heat.

thanks shane! I may go that route in the end, I think the lighting is going to be something that I will mess with a bit before I decide on what works best! Im going to order two l3 mini's but only start with one over the tank with a 250w mh. if I dont feel like I have adequate coverage then Ill up it to the second mh...I figure I already have the two ballasts and sockets, if one cuts it then i can sell off the second setup with the reflector!!!

on another note, I bought my bulk heads for my closed loop today! I was so excited to get them home and put them in the tank...well the 1" didnt fit, they were built too bulky. The 2" fit like a glove so I put it in the tank and added my strainer!!! Ill update with pics tomorrow!!! anyone have any 1" bh's they want to get rid of!?!?

here are the pics of the tank moved into the house... :) Im still looking at the strainer I bought and trying to figure out how I can mod it to not stick out so far...bump for anyone with 1"bh they want to get rid of!!!

that looks just like an elos with out the filtration. Do mind telling us what you paid for that tank and where you got it.

the tank was built by vizio!! if you know of a local retailer that order through them then your set and at a much lower cost then elos! I dont think they are built quite as clean as vizio but for the pice you cant beat it....their prices are similar to what glass cages would charge!

well, toady I went into my "fish stuff closet" and found an old lumenarc III. For the heck of it I went out to the garage and tried to fit into the hood I built for the new tank...what do you know? it fit like a glove and about 4" to spare on the depth so I can still ad some actinics!!! I guess Ill be going with a single unit! I hooked it up with an old 20k xm and it looked awesome...pics to come

here is the hood sitting on top of the tank! I really cant believe what a single l3 can do...amazing coverage, I cant imagin what its going to cover with light spread once I hang it a few inches off the tank!!!
