I also have had white spots. Different what happens when I do a large water change and I have this really ugly turd colored coralline on some types of rock in my tank. And some medium ugly green on my glass and the back of my tank. It seems to be in the strangest places some are in good light some are in not so good light.

I just replaced one of my 96w 50/50 PC's and the other one is just barely 5 months old. Do you think I need to clean the reflectors and bulbs? ( obviously when cool)?

I don't want to scrape the green algae off cause I don't want to propigate it ( sorry bout the spelling, my husband took me on a date :p)
Any help about how to promote purple, pink or lavender coralline algae growth would be appreciated :)

Thanks in advance,

its cool... i cant spell sober

anyhow
i thought that coraline likes high CA levels or at least around 420.

the deep red coraline doesnt like bright light... but the lighter purple does....

ive noticed a good change from when i first got my rocks. (being coverd heavy red) to now more purple on top, and red around the sides....

just keep the levels where they need to be and wait....

Well you have to have some coralline to spread the growth around your tank, and a constant high calcium level. If you have those two things, your tank should be covered in coralline in a couple months.

Hey Debbie...The thing with coraline is the different shades are a result of different intensities in lighting. So where pinks will grow, purple won't etc. which is why you will see different shades in different parts of the tank. Once you maintain good water quality and your alk and calcium is in balance, then it should grow nicely. Some people will toss in a sea urchin to help spread it, some will take out a rock and scrape off the coraline and spread the "shavings" around in the tank, while others just have it go nuts! I just scraped a rock to spread it through my tank and it worked pretty well:)

the back of my tank is well on its way to looking like that...I don't like it. But I can't reach it either so I guess it's gonna do what it's gonna do

Well I have all kinds of coralline happening in my tank. The back and part of the sides are getting covered. I think Krish might have hit the nail on the head. I think it is a lighting issue and also "something mysterious":eek:

I have never seen coralline algae this color before....ok ok I have but it was just in a tiny spot. You see.......well it's not important. But is important to me is how to help the coralline colors I want thrive. I started again dosing with A and B. (I had my husband do the math as I am completely inept in math (except geometry). So hopefully this will help. I think with the corals in there now and the anemone I need to give a supplement even though I change water bi-weekly. Lot's of water! 140 lbs. Well it is lots when ya got to carry it :)
