I just bought another's complete setup over the past weekend.
I'm trying to figure out what some of the corals are.

I believe these pictures are of some sort of SPS Coral, but I certainly could be wrong.
It's mainly brown and seems to be bleached out in several spots and covered in coraline.
The parts that are still alive, seem happy. :)
Could someone please identify this for me and give me a clue as to how to care for it?

Thanks,
Vicki

Cool Vicki it looks happy right there. Keep doing what it has right now, and it will grow in great.

But I'd just moved it there two minutes before I took the pictures! :)
It seems happy where ever I put it.
I checked around in the Coral/Invert Gallery and I do believe it's probably some sort of Acropora. ???

Hello Vicki,
Yes it is an Acropora. It looks like it has had a rough life up to now. I cannot tell you the species but the care for most Acropora corals is similar. Water chemistry should be the same as for most stony corals.

Thanks for the confirmation Kevin. I'll read up on them and hopefully, quickly learn how best to care for it.
I've just got a little over a year and half experience with corals, and I'm not sure I'm ready for SPS.
Since I've managed to adopt this one, I'll give it my best though!

Hi Vicki,
There's not much difference between LPS corals and SPS corals. On average SPS like more light and water flow. Other than that SPS just have smaller polyps. I think you will do just fine :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
I'll sure give it my best shot.
Never know, before long I may have a whole tank full of colored sticks!

Vicki, what are your current water params? I disagree that LPS is anything like SPS as LPS is MUCH more forgiving then SPS as far as water stablity.. Test you CA, dKH, Mg and salinity and report back. You are striving for these #'s though to try to emulate NSW levels as close as you can with synthetic salts.

CA 400-420
dKH 6-8
Mg 1200-1350
Salinity 1.024-1.026
temp anywhere from 77-82 but I do not recommend more then a 2-3 degree daily swing for stabiltiy.

In the summer I run the tank 80-82 and in the winter I run it 78-80. Just easier and keeps my chiller form kicking in also..
