THis is my new upgrade. I bought about six month ago and finaly got my fish switched over. I had a 75 gallon tank that i started a couple years ago. I gave it to my nephews dad when i moved to florida. Then i just took it back last febuary. It pretty much only had live rock and a bunch of nuice alge in it since he ran out of time and money to take care of it. I bought all my fish together around june, they have been together for four year.

Wow! What equipment do you have on it (skimmer, lighting, etc)? How many gallons of water is it, since it stair steps? Look forward to more pics!

I think its around 120 to 140

It is 6 ft long a 1 1/2 feet deep and 3 feet tall. I am guess around 120 to 160. I have 3 totes below working as the sump and refugium. For my skimmer i'm running aquaC EV 180, a Aquanetics 15 watt UV sterilizer, Iwaki MD 40R for my return pump (very loud), is there a way to quite them or they suppose to run loud. I bought it used. I am going to hook up Aqudyne Octopus 3000 too but just havent done it yet.

My fish are a BL blemmie, Yellow tang, blue chomis, and a set of clowns. I have one emerald crab and a coral banded schrimp in the refugium.

Thanks krish

Thanks, I haven't finished the front of the stand or the canopy. I am currently putting in my mooms lights and two MD in the canopy i am hoping to get a thrid for the center later on.

So far it has been working really well, I had it on my old 75 gallon and I think it helped clean up my hair algy mess i had.

Better picture of my tang and chromis

my refug

THis is my refug. I bought my plants for kevin and i have a coral banded schrimp in it too, with a couple rocks. I am running the lights of america flood light 24 hrs a day on it.

my sump

I have two out lets from my refug coming in with some ball valves, have them both wide open. I have my skimmer and uv draining into here and three heaters. I want to mount my probe in here too but have not found a good way yet. my return line to the pump is down in the lower right corner.

Should i put the lid on here to stop some of the eveporation or leave it off for oxygen exchange.

Wow...That's a pretty big skimmer to have on a 75 gal. But I guess it is better to have too much than to little. Nice YT. I just got a YT about 3-4weeks ago and he is doing very well. He'd eat all day if I stood there and fed him(LOL). Here's a picture of him in my tank on my thread if you haven't seen it. http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10720&page=18

I guess that would depend on what is more important to you personally for your setup. For eg. is heat an issue for you? I have to leave my tank un-covered to help cool it even with central air running non-stop. Evaporation IMO, isn't a bad thing...

thanks krish

I dont think heat is a issue yet. It might be once i put my hood on with the MH. I was just wondering about eveporation because i am living in my sisters basement and my neice has allergies really bad. I thinking that it would keep the air from getting moist prevent from mold or something like that.

DId you catch yours in the ocean? Someday i want to come visit you to see your fish store. My YT is pain from letting me get new fish. He has a tendancy to beat up on new commers otherwise i really like him.

No I didn't catch that one. Infact, I don't think they are in our waters. The only yellow tangs I've seen around are the blue tangs which are yellow as juveniles. Yeh, I think you'd like to visit the Bahamas, but not the pet stores unless you like freshwater fish(LOL) We aren't really allowed to import or sell saltwater marine life. So you have to either catch what you want or sneak it in...

Hello

Kirsh

Areyou able to order fish through online catolog then. I wasmeaning the ocean as your pet store but if i come visit i dont get to take anything home with me. :( Are you going to frag some corals from the ocean for your tank. Is it pretty hard to catch them or they pretty friendly when your swimming around?

pump question

I am running a Iwaki MD 40R and it is really loud. I was wondering if these pumps tend to run real loud or does it just need some cleaning. I was planning on building a little box around with some sound proof matarial to insulate it. Do you think thisw ould create to much heat? I was going to use some noise insulator stuff from a radio shop. (can't remember what it's called)

What are your recommendations for your refugium light 12on 12off reverse from the tank lights. or 24 hours?? If i run it 24 hours would it bother my coral banded schrimp??

Thanks for all your help.

We are not allowed to import anything saltwater/marine. When I bring in anything out of the Bahamas, it is through my friend at the LFS and they are un-invoiced. About fraging corals, I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet there. I'll decide by the middle of next year and catching fish, is a breeze if you do it in water shallow enough to stand in so you don't have to keep diving down to chase them. Some fish like damsels, baby jacks etc will come right up to you. It's the ones you really want though you have to go after(LOL)

Never used one of them before so I'm not sure if heat will be an issue...Sorry.

I use a simple 18 watt coral life compact florescent light and was said by many of the other to be a good fuge/sump light. A lot of people use light like Marc uses at www.melevsreef.com Depending on what you plan to keep in your fuge will depent on the photoperiod. I plan to use chaeto so I will be running my lights on alternate photoperiods. However, some people who keep caulerpa run 24 hour photoperiod on their sumps. Just a few thoughts. HTH
