My Simple DIY Skimmer

Just wanted to share the build with the nice folk of RF

Simple as can be, run with a Sedra 15000 MeshMod. Thank you "FragMan" for the cylinders. The collection cup came off an old skimmer I picked up for $20 and chopped it up good

It's 37" tall with a 1 1/2" drain with gate valve. I know its ugly but so far its been working like a champ.

I really like the Sedra pumps now, amount of bubbles is just crazy.

and do you find that the neck from the top fathom skimmer you used is large enough? it looks like about 3" from the pic, which seems small, but your skimmer is so tall it probably makes up for it.

Thanks Skimmer, I didnt have much of a choice with the neck, just did what I could with what I had

I love the Sedra this thing is crazy, but again I haven't had anything in the same class to compare it to.

Most likely yes. make sure you drain can handle it. I tested the sedra in the sump and it started making foam turning the whole sump into a skimmer

Thanks. Only the collection cup assembly is from the Tom Fathom since I don't have the equipment nor the skills to make the cone thingy on top

How did you glue the two pieces of tubing together?

Weld-on #16. works like a charm, it kinda melts them together.

I'm trying to research the neck size a bit, I cant really envision why it would better for the neck to be big. any one can help me out?

You need a larger neck to allow more air to go through it without turning the foam into a cannon.

OOHH I thought the whole cannon neck thing was going to work in my favor. I get it now....:idea:

A bigger neck allows more air and won't cause your skimmer to overflow

And a lot of the contact time is in the neck and foamhead as well.

I'm not sure about the neck size issue now. Skimmer has been doing so well, The skinny neck has not been an issue yet

Not yet... But if it ever overflowed you would know why

Though as skimmerboy suggested though, your body is so tall that it probably made up for the skinny neck.
