Ok, so I need some help. Boyfriend is now setting up his own tank, and he is starting a Nano. It is a 29 gallon. I am trying to find him the filters and such for christmas, but not sure what to go with. My tank is bigger, so I have larger equipment, but not sure what to do about a tank so small. Should I still use a canister type filter? We have the powerheads, adn the lighting. He is only keeping softies, and such. Any advice?

I'd get a skimmer like an Aqua C remora hang on for the tank. That will help tons and as for filtration, I'd just let the live rock do all the work for you. A canister is cool to run carbon and add some extra flow, but I wouldn't run any floss or anything like that in it as it would need to be rinsed or changed out every few days otherwise it could possibly degrade water quality from trapped detritus and waste:)

Ok, that is what I was thinking too. I just figured the tank was too small to run large filters on it. He already has a Seio Powerhead. Thanks!

I use the Corallife Super skimmer 65. It doesnt cost much can be set up as HOB or in sump. It was very simple to set up and has done a great job on my 30
