Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Anyone?
I can trade a couple frags for the work.
Like maybe,
one adult and one baby PPE.

and four polyps of Keds Reds.

I could throw in a little cash.
What I want is a clean install with all drivers properly working, favorites, outlook express and all emails back in place.

I can do it for your, it will have to be done on Saturday though. My girlfriend has to work so I won't have anything else to do. If you're busy then, I might be able to get down there during the week next week.

As far as the e-mail thing goes, you can't have them back in your outlook express in the same fashion as they are now. At least I don't know how to do that. When you save e-mail out of outlook, it turns it into a text file. You could copy and paste it to get it back into an e-mail, but the original e-mail is no longer there. I'm assuming you have a cd/dvd burner and some disks. If you don't have any cd's I can bring a couple.

Let me know when you're available and shoot me a phone number so I can get a hold of you to finalize a time and get an address.

The outlook express and all it's folders and sub folders are one of the important things I need.
I have this done ( wipe and reinstall) at my local computer shop every couple years, and they do this.
I may just take it back there if I can't find someone to do everything I need.

I can put the folder/sub folders back in, but if you mean the e-mail inside those folder/sub folders, I haven't a clue how they would do that. Like I said, if you save the e-mail, outlook changes it into a text file. Sorry bout that.

do you hear the hard drive noisy lately? it might be the hard drive going bad. have you tried to copy the hard drive to another hard drive? when you buy a new hard drive theres a disk utility that copies drive for drive. you have to pay attention to make the new hard drive the slave on the jumper settings. it will then tell you if you successfully copied the hard drive. then move the jumper to master and you should be good to go. sometimes when its finnicky to copy over, stick the hard drive in the freezer to make it cool to the touch and give a whirl to try to copy over. if after you successfully copied the drive and still acts the same then you got a virus that changes your registry everytime you boot. good luck

Finn, you can probably fix this problem on your own with a little help from a forum that I've used before myself. Go here and register. http://www.techsupportforum.com/ It's completely free and the guys who do the helping do exactly that, help. They will basically do it all for you, all you need to do is follow the instructions of what they post. They will reset your registry back to a working order. Check out this link, http://www.techsupportforum.com/sec...read-before-posting-malware-removal-help.html download the programs they suggest and then post your problem. They will ask for your logs that you get from the downloaded programs. Then they'll give you a txt. file to put into another program that will fix the registry. Chances are you got a virus if it all of a sudden started running like crap. They help you dump the virus and then fix the problems it caused.

Thanks.
I don't think it's a virus. I have Norton do weekly scans and use spybot.
I also use adawarese.
There was a registry problem. Windows tried to fix it but it's got a few hickups.

Even if it wasn't a virus they will fix registry problems. Just explain what is going on and they'll go through it with you. Like I said, it's free, but it can take a couple days because once your request is answered, that is the only person you'll be conversing with.

On a side note, dump adaware. AVG makes a better anti spyware program. Just do a search for it if you haven't heard of it before.

PS - all your outlook files (emails, contacts, etc) are stored as .pst files on your HD. You can find the backup location by browsing your outlook preferences and finding where the autoarchiving is stored.

Man I wish I was in Seattle - I'd hook ya up for some tasty zoas :)

I ended up taking it in to the shop where it was built last weekend. Still under warrenty.
They replaced the hard drive and reinstalled the os.
Thanks everyone.

Glad its fixed.

I second using the techsupportforums if you have a PC problem that has you stumped! They helped me with something hubby did to his playing Oblivion. They are great, very helpful. :D
