I had to shut down the pump the leads to my chiller. When I plugged it back in, it wasn't working. I took it apart and everything looked OK. I could not see any damage to the impeller. I cleaned off the deposites on the magnet and put it together. It now makes a loud ratcheting sound and still doesn't work. If I pour water into the inlet, the noise goes away until it gains on me and starts pulling air. What is the most likely cause?

Thanks,

Rich

Id check the impellar seat in the removable (front ent) housing. I recently had to modify a mag 7 from the plastic seat wearing away right there. I looked and looked and the wear barely caught my eye.

Sorry to take so long to get back to this Rich.

The impellar was sticking to the side of the housing due to a worn out boot seat. It was chattering for a few weeks and then it finally quit one day forcing me to take a very close look at it. Custom Aquatics sells impellars and front end housing replacements for the mag (danner) pumps if it comes to that.
