Help please
I purchased one of the Pacific Sun LED fixtures through Barrier Reef during a group buy.

Tonight the fixture has stopped working. Only 2 of the three panels light and it cannot be controlled by bluetooth or by the touch screen computer. The two working panels are only lighting the royal blue LED's and no whites.

If anyone local to Puyallup could come out and possibly fix the lamp it would be much appreciated. I can only pay in frags. I have no cash to put into the lights, and I cannot afford halides. I've been on disability and my doctor will not release me to return to work until Jan. 10th. I'm in serious trouble here, as the US distributor for Pacific Sun is no longer in business.

I don't need it to be computer controlled. If it can be modified to be adjusted with potentiometers thats fine with me. I have no idea of what to do, or how to go about doing it.

I have determined one of the LED drivers is bad. (voltage meter)

The driver says the following:

Water Proof Electronic LED Driver
CV-24200B 24V DC/8.3A 200W
input: 90-130VAC 2.8A 50/60 Hz
output: 24VDC max. -- 8.3A
200w

Could I find one of these online and wire it, or does it need to be the specific driver from Pacific Sun?

I wish I could help with that BCT but I have never even seen one. I would imagine pacific sun does not make them and who ever does just gathers the components and assembles them. I would do a search and see if you could match it up. Can Pac Sun not give you any help on this?? Maybe even a contact name to start??

There is one on that list that looks to be rated the same.

The problem the original US distributor has closed up shop. I contacted the new us distributor and he said the driver would be coming from Poland. With Xmas and customs I think it will take longer than what my tank can handle.

Pardon my ignorance...is the driver in the external power supply or the Fixture itself?

I'm 99% certain he means the internal driver...otherwise he could switch the power supplies around to apply a working one to the proper plug that would allow the Bluetooth and such to have power. I'm not sure if that unit has more than one power supply though.

BUT I have been 1% wrong plenty of times :)

Pretty sure he's got a three array Deimos fixture...I've got the smaller 2 array Phobos which has 2 power supplies. So I'm thinking he's got 3 power supplies. These LED/T5 combo fixtures just have the BP 160W arrays (each w/it's own power supply), then a seperate cord for the T5's. I took my Phobos apart to troubleshoot a T5 issue...and I don't think I saw anything that looked like an LED driver. There was a board for the LCD display, a board for the T5 (dimming I think) and the T5 ballast. I think that was it.

Ok guys, sorry I've been at it all day. The external LED driver is what seems to have gone bad. The unit is wired so that each panel has its own power circuit. Then there is a separate control circuit that controls the brightness and when they come off and on. They are wired in series. Master-slave-slave, and the power supply for panel #3 is what burned up. Both drivers 1 & 2 are now working. I tried hooking the power source from panel #2 to panel #3 but that did nothing. I am assuming this is because since the control circuit is wired in series, with no power to panel 2, panel 3 gets no command to fire. This does not however explain why I've lost all controllability of the lamp via bluetooth or the built in touch screen.

What I have found is that the lights have saved my custom PAR table I had programed into the lamp. My assumption is once I get the replacement 200w driver, the third panel will light as it is only a slave, and the other slave is working properly.

Mojo was nice enough to meet up with me this morning and lend me a 400w bulb, I already have a 400w ballast and reflector. I took the LED fixture and slid it to one side so the left side of the tank is open for me to mount a halide. Panel #1 is lighting the center of the tank, and panel #2 is lighting the right side of the tank. Panel #3 is hanging (but supported) off the side of the aquarium.

I emailed the manufacturer in Poland and also called the distributor in Canada. He thinks he will be able to get me a warranty driver, I'm only skeptical becasue they have been very difficult to deal with in the past, but that was also with the US distributor who has since closed up shop. Mojo also found a link to a company in Cali that has a similar driver, that is rated the same and even has a similar part number. As far as input and output ratings, they are exactly the same. The driver is $90 so if Pacific Sun leaves me hanging thats where I will go next I guess.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to lend me some lighting and also for all the great input. I hope to hear something from Poland by 9am tomorrow so we shall see. In the mean time I have the halide/LED combo rigged up so I wont loose any livestock.

Thanks again, and I'll update when I know more.

Brett...if they will send a replacement, I have a PacSun driver you can borrow while it's in transit. PM me if interested.

PM sent!

Very cool of you to offer help FreakinReefin :D That's what it is all about! Way to go Mojo!

Yes I was quite overwhelmed by all the kind offers. I even got a couple phone calls from concerned reefers who offered to loan me some lighting! I'm very blessed to have such generous friends here on RF. Thanks again everyone!

Also, for the quick update, I emailed the US distributor and he had contacted Pacific Sun themselves, Pacific sun replied to them that they had ALREADY emailed me about the situation. They had not, I even checked my spam box. No email. Go figure.:doubt:

Here was their response:

Dear Bret,
Im sorry to hear it that yoiu have problem with our power supply.
As you told you have bought this lam from our previous reseller - we have supplied this reseller for many service parts(up to this date not sent(damaged) to us - so they should still have our about 1-15 power supplys with USA plug.
So Im sorry - but we cant sent a new one to you directly - you should contact with your supplier - and they should change your power supply for new one.
Of course - we will not leave you without support - but firstly try to contact with Mr. Niedzialek(or shop when you have bought.
If you will get reply from them - please forward it to us.
I will try everything what I can - but we had to stop cooperate with our previous reseller(Mr. Rafal Niedzialek) due to some situations between our companies.
But we will do everything what we can to support you - but firstly try to contact with your supplier - in American law he is responsible for this transaction - not our company (because we have sold lamps to them) and he sold to you.
So everything should be "done" by this company.
Please inform me about that what reply you will get.

Brett..I just logged on and now saw your thread..I,To,had a driver go bad.I was fortunate enough to get it replaced by Rafal..It only took 2 weeks!!!!!!!!! I also had to rigg up lighting so I would not lose my corals.I would appreciate it if you would send me the info on the replacement drivers you found locally..Looks like this is a common problem..Hope it works out soon for you bro.....Shane
