I was cleaning glass today and my Foxface was startled and ran into my carpet anemone.
I was quick to get him off but it had a strong hold on him. I used a stick so I wouldn't get stung.

kinda grown partial to the little guy. Didn't eat well when I got him... fixed that... got all fat and got a real bad bacterial infection fixed that.. fins were starting to grow back, started eating AGAIN, even meeting me at glass all happy!

Anyways. Hoping anyone has a thought on his chances.. should I pull him out before he dies in tank?

Both sides and eyes look bad..

Well. He is gone.. about an hour after posting this up the snails got ahold of him. Poor little fella. The nem is in sump. Probably for good or until I find a better home for him. I never really wanted a Nem. But sometimes you gotta make the wife happy. Maybe I could trade him for another fish.
Thanks NanoReefer

I feel your pain. When I first started SW I was gifted with an order 2 Maxi Mini anemones. 2yrs and 4 lost fish later I was finally able to get rid of them. Took all my rock into the LFS for credit.
I know it's normal for Nems to catch and eat fish, but I just don't wanna see it.
Trade it in for a new fish, you'll feel better :)

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Carpets are notorious for being fish eaters, but two of my Ritteri's have also eaten fish....

One suggestion I would make in the future would be to get very aggressive clownfish for the anemone.

Obviously you dont want the clowns to be so aggressive they beat up the rest of the tank or the anemone...but territorial clownfish will prevent the vast majority of fish eating by anemones. Saddle Backed clowns are a good example of this for the Haddoni Carpet anemone.

I lost a clown to a big maxi mini. Even little carpets are quite lethal.

First I've heard of that happening.

There are anemones that are not clownfish hosts that can kill and eat clownfish...I just never knew that Mini Carpets were capable of it too.
