New 180 w/ Mermaid

Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

I have been very busy lately and just wanted to let you know that I finished the plumbling tonight, inspired by the tank move with mushroom boy. I have flow as I type. Everything is looking good. It is just tap water for the leak test but will be more than ready for SW ASAP. Just a couple of gentle tweakings and I should be good to go. YEAH!!!

Good job, Karen :)

Sigh. I need about 4 days off to finally get mine up and running; this is getting depressing.

You shall be my inspiration!

Hey Karen! If I had a mermaid like you in my reef tank I would be watching all the time.;)

That looks like it is going to be one nice reef aquarium and something you will have alot of enjoyment in years to come. Congratulations!:)

Thanks Alice it's been a fun, patience practicing event.

Doug you will be happy to know that the Christmas Village it tucked safely away for the next 11 months.:)

Hey Johnny mermaids are hard to come by so keep your eye out for one that fits in your tank.:)

You are too kind Dang. I am still going to make a trip out there when I get a minute to check out your system.

Josh you guessed it, the tank is going to sit back into the closet opening with space to let air circulate behind it. I still have a few details that would be for ease of maintenance to work out but it should be in it's permenant spot sometime before the weeks end.
If all goes well. :)

Aquascaping

Finally the aquascaping. Still curing the rock w/o any canopy/lighting. It will be coming soon. Patience, patience, patience.....

The rockwork looks great Karen. I see LOTS of places for little frags to be located in that tank ... Good aquascaping I think you will like it very much ... Keep the pictures of the progress coming. You know how I like pictures :)

Wonderful set up you have there! How far back into the cubby hole is it going and is it accessible from behind? Just curious!

Looks great, Karen! How many pounds of live rock do you have?

Hey Karen! Beautiful mermaids like that are very rare so hopefully I can find one in the future! Oh that 's right I do have a beautiful mermaid at home! My high school sweetheart!:D

Gina, that is as far as it is going back. It is flush with the wall and my "fish room" is the closet space in behind it. I orginally was going to put the tank back in there but I had no room to work.

Nikki, I have about 225lbs of Tonga and Kaelini rock. I will be putting a bit more in when I move my inhabitants back I will take that rock in their temporary tank and try to make it fit in the 180!
Water tests last night show very low ammonia no Nitrites and will check for Nitrates today (I forgot I loaned my test kit to a friend).
I think the cycle is almost over.

And Johnny, you big mush!:)

Thanks for all the encouragement everyone.
Karen

Looks good Karan, that is going to be one sweet setup once its all said and done.

Alice lets get off our butts and put that baby back in biz.

Very nice Karen... you are giving me inspiration to start my new 180. I just have to finish a couple projects my wife demands of me before the tank construction begins. When you find time, I'm sure everyone would love to hear more details. I am very impressionable right now considering my design is organic and definately not set in stone yet. Would love to hear more about the plumbing, circulation, fuge, etc. Good luck with the cycle!

Thanks Mojo you are my inspiration, everytime I look at the pictures of your tank I get more motivated. I want to be like Mike, you're the man! :):)

jazznreef I will get some more pictures/details when I get all the equipment up and running. My new skimmer should be here soon and the lighting is not wired yet but details later.
Thanks for the kudos.

Karen
