New 75 Gallon Tank

Okay, I promised pictures of the new tank ... it is a 75 gallon direct replacement tank (some of you may know my tank bracing cracked last month and had to consider replacing my tank, so I ended up doing so).

The tank is a Clear Fabrications tank ... I will let the pictures do most of the talking ...

Here is the full tank view ...

Here is the overflow area and you can see a cap made for the top and you can also see the eurobracing with more rounded and smoothed edges.

Here is a closeup of the overflow area with the cap removed ...

This is tough to see, but the edges where you will be able to see are nicely beveled ...

And lastly you can see the overview of the top with the eurobracing I have elected to go with this time around...

I will be making the switchover after the new year, it should be a relatively smooth operation. Wish me luck.

Looks really nice Chuck. They did a great job putting it together and I trust that you will have a smooth switch over. One question..What is the black and silver (or black and white) stripped thing sitting in the tank?

Chuck - what size is the opening on the top, and the size of the opening for the overflow? I'm curious about the width of the eurobracing, and thickness of acrylic? Looks great! Jason did a nice job.

The opening on top is around 10" x 36", the overflow is a 6"x6" box with the cutout on top being 4.5" x 4.5". 1/2" all the way around.

As long as I can get the rock in there, all will be good, just have to figure out how to reach the corners with the enhanced eurobracing.

Jason can probably chime in here with any particulars.

I think a few people like your new 75! Gotta like that!

When I start to design a custom tank, I am thinking of how much structural support the top needs to last long term. One has to understand that reef tanks are an extreme environment. You have a heavy medium (saltwater @ 1.026 + or -), which can get to 85 Degrees F., and then you have MH lighting, and the bulbs run 650 Degrees F. or hotter than I would want to touch. So, one can easly understand that if you have ANY stress built into the top, it will not hold up for long. I look at the top of a tank as the foundation. I will usually use 1/2" or thicker for the top, and I use either 3", 4", or 6" inside radius for the corners. If anyone has questions on the opening size would be for an XXX gallon tank, just e-mail me or call. Chuck really wanted as big as opening as possible. I gave him as much as I was comfortable with. Even going to 3/4, on his tank would have only made the top an inch wider, and perhaps 2" longer.

Chuck has a tank that will last a very long time. How long? I'd probably say 20+ years. There are too many varibles, the stand, the canopy, lights, the temp of the water.......

I build them one at a time, and if I wouldn't want it in my house, it don't leave the shop! The people that know me will tell you the same thing.

I will share some pic's of how Chuck's tank went togeather, as soon as I can figure out thow to post them. Keep checking back.
