ohh Boomer, i wish i could read the article :(, but for some reason it doesn't let me... i guess i'm really not that welcome in Reef central:(

Wow, Neat article. But question Boomer, Will you consider dosing Iron now? I was thinking if someone had a emergency and needed to remove Hydrogen Sulfide.

those shots were during a power outage at work. usually the h2s is compressed and the sulfer is recovered for future use.

Thanks for the reading material Boomer! I scanned through it and found it to be very interesting. I plan on spending some more time really sucking in what is said there which I'm sure will open more windows for thoughts. One thing that did come to mind though was this quote...

Avoid burying organic materials under sand or rocks. This organic material decays, and that decay can drive the formation of hydrogen sulfide. Burying live rock under sand, for example, will likely kill many organisms and when they decay, H2S may be formed.

This kinda makes you feel like you should have bb aquariums...

Also, I had a question about this one...
Do not store live sand for extended periods without placing it in circulating aerated water

Would you know off hand what would be considered extended periods here? Here's why I ask...

I removed my 1/4 inch ssb last night from my 90 gal and put it in a bucket of tank water with a small maxi jet in there for circulation (the sand was maybe 1/4 of the way up a standard 5 gal bucket). I tried to point the powerhead down a bit to keep the sand stirred, but 106gph doesn't do too much, but nevertheless I figured it was better than nothing. I took out the sand bed to go bb, but my wife wants it back in so I'm putting it back in and have added pretty much all of it already about 24hrs later after removing it (I would have put all back in but didn't want to disturb my fish too much) Is there any reason for me to worry here or am I pretty much safe do to the fact that I didn't have stationary water in the bucket with the sand for this short period of time? Thanks for any info you may have and once again...Thanks for the great thread!

sand for this short period of time?

No, it is usually days or even weeks and occurs once all the O2 is gone and is much more common in closed / sealed contaniers

Will you consider dosing Iron now?

I never dosed iron but if one wants to be sucessful with macro's it is a good idea. I never raised macros' :)

Thanks for the Education..

Boomer,
I was worried I insulted you earlier, Whew. I am a fan of your teachings in here. I hope you keep it up.
Thanks,
sincerely,
Ed:)

I think that the washing you did to the substrate this way will benefit your system.Seak not to cover the rock with the sand !Place the rock over it with pvc plumbing.......This will keep the sand a bit cleaner if you have the wright water movement !
