New B clam?

I have a clam that’s about 9 inches long that is new to me.
I have had it for about 2 weeks now. Its been looking real nice after the first day I put it into the tank. What signs should I watch for that would indicate a serious problem could be on the horizon? Not having any experience with them I figured it would be a good thing to know about since it’s not exactly like a fish swimming around. The second question I have is about my shark nose gobies. I have 3 of them and one has decided to call the clam its new home. I can see the clam is a little irritated with the fish always moving around on the clam. Is this going to be a problem or will the clam just get use to having the goby moving around on it?

Looks fine to me, but signs to look for gaping...basically the inlet of a clam should be slightly open. some clams have the inlet kept pretty much like a slit others have them slightly opened. when a clam is gapping the inlet hole is wide open. looks like it is gapping for water. generally not a good sign.

personally, i would try and displace the shark nose goby elsewhere..will not allow the clam to full expand...just keep water parameters constant and should be fine.

Well I gave it a couple days for the clam and shark nose to get along but it wasn’t happening. The shark nose goby is now in the refrugium. It does pain me to say I’m undecided as to what to do now. I really like the relationship of the cleaner fish with the other fish in the tank. I just wish the clam had been fine with it perching on it. I’m at a coin toss about keeping the clam or now.

Hey tat2z_21, I was going to give it the weekend to think about it since today is my 40th bd.

Is not that I don’t like having the clam and everyone thinks its just too cool, I like the fish too and if I had known it would have been a problem, but you know, hind sight is always 20/20. I was hoping they would get alone but after a few days I could see that was not going to happen. The clam just saw it more like a fly that wouldn’t go away. The clam would twitch, the fish would swim around for 10 seconds and land on the clam and repeat again and again.

Ill talk with my wife about it and Ill let you know tonight. NC2WA said he would be interested in it too if we decide to re-home bubba again. I wasn’t sure if you would be able to squeeze him back into your tank or if you even wanted to.

IMO, if you decide to part ways with the clam, it should go back to Floyd the original owner.

Either way, I just want to make sure that it gets a good home, wasn't necessarily trying to get it back. I just do not want it to end up some where that it is not going to be taken care of.
