I received my new Deltec PF500 Calcium reactor. Waiting on the Rowalith media before I install it. Thought I would share some pictures of this reactor in case any of you were interested in how it looks.

More efficient, Higher DKH, reuses CO2, hopefully won't stop due to gas build up ... And just pretty darn cool looking

Mike here. I hope you all don't think I'm intruding on your forum, but I was researching Deltec's and see Chuck with his awesome Deltec Calcium Reactor(saw it on RC too)!
I'm not an expert on ARM or Rowalith, but the latter is a 2 part mixture of Rowalith C+ along with just Rowalith (or possibly Rowalith W). The two types of rowalith have different particle sizes, and when they fluidise, you get more media dissolved into the water. Conventional reactors which have static media (doesn't fluidise) channel water and don't provide as much surface area for the depressed pH within the reactor to dissolve media. So, I believe it's really the result of the mechanical action in the calcium reactor as much as the media itself that contributes to a higher calcium & alkalinity being dissolved within the Deltec units.

I finally received the media 2 days ago. Haven't had a chance to put it in the reactor. By the looks of it, it appears to look like cat litter. haha ... 2 part cat litter ... Looking forward to getting the reactor running soon.

Great to have you aboard mike feel free to post as much as you want. I totally agree with you on the mechcanical being very important. the media size is also a big player. The second part of the media is just an enert product designed to help with the fluidizing.

I just checked out Ron Dalton's Aquarium Solutions website and they have completely changed their pricing. I wanted to order a Deltec this month, but was advised to wait until January 18th which is when the distribution channels open for US customers. Now, I look at their website again and prices have been increased 35% on average for the entire line of calcium reactors! The biggest price increase is model PF 600s (the model I was planning on buying) at 46% higher from last week. I really wanted a Deltec, but I can hardly afford one PF 600s now, much less 2 of them. The funny thing is that model PF 600s costs more to ship than PF 1000. How is that physically possible?

I finally installed the reactor over the weekend. Had some problems, mainly with the pump. It came with a missing o-ring, I found that out the hard way :shock:
And the pump stopped working for a bit, gave it a 15 minute time out and it has been running ever since.

I am not too familiar with calcium reactors so I am wondering if your media is normaly turning inside of the reactor chamber? Most running reactors I have seen aren't like that, is that because you just set it up and everything hasn't settled, or is it just one of those European engineering feets??? ;-);-);-)

This is a German fluidizing calcium reactor. It is supposed to churn up the media, it gets it all suspended and allows the reaction to take place on all sides of the media more efficiently ... Those guys over there know how to design aquarium stuff for sure
