After 2800+ posts on RC, I'm ready to move on. I'm looking for a progressive venue for an informative forum of fish diseases, illnesses, health, nutrition, and treatments.

On RC I'm leebca (you can check it out). I usually respond to posts in the Fish Disease Treatment Forum.

My first saltwater aquarium was in 1968.

In the early 1970's I conducted experiments and studies on Cryptocaryon irritans and ornamental fish diseases, the use of garlic, antibiotics, the use of dips, and fish nutrition.

I have owned and operated fish only marine systems, some with LR, some without. I have handled about 1700+ marine fishes and have learned a lot about their maladies and remedies through experience, biopsy/post mortem exams, dissection, operations under anesthesia, and care.

I have degrees in Microbiology and Chemistry from OSU. I was partner of an LFS in Columbus, OH in the '70's, imported fishes from The Phillippines, and helped begin the net-catching practices (abolishing cyanide collections) there.

Anyway, I was wanting to begin a new forum here on RF if there is a consensus of there being a need. It would be a Forum specialized in fish diseases, cures, remedies, treatments, prophylactic measures against diseases, and fish nutrition.

Is there any interest or need for such a specific Forum here on RF?

Welcome to RF Lee! Glad to have you here!:) About that forum, you'd have to take that subject matter up with Chuck (MtnDewMan) or Mike (Mojoreef). I know a new forum was added about 2 weeks ago or so, that deals with basically the same subject matter as you have discussed with SteveS as moderator. I guess you will have to see what the administrators say. Best wishes and hope you enjoy your time here:)

WELCOME TO REEFFRONTIERS!!!

It's awesome to have yet another expert like Steve Skinner willing to offer their insights to members. This is definately an area where my knowledge is weak so I love to read what others write.

Thanks Kirsh and Curt.

I hadn't realized that Forum was geared towards diseases. I can now see how that might be the case, from its description. I'll hang around in there now and then.

Regards!

leebca - Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!! I hope you enjoy the site.

I'm always interested in learning more about fish disease treatments, cures, etc. Look forward to reading some of your posts and knowledge you have to pass on!

leebca:shock: I was wondering why I haven't seen you at RC lately:D I thought you just became a member of the 'staff'
Many threads going unanswered over there:eek: But I understand the need to move on..I pop in here occasionally myself:D
Good to see you here!

Hi Bttrflygrl,

I've more or less gotten away from RC.

You are almost correct -- I was a part of Team RC. I had a disagreement on how things were done -- a lot of complaining with no action. I couldn't imagine spending significant time discussing something, when it can be taken care of. Anyway I began 'policing' a fav regional Forum (part of the 'job') and I got an insulting e-mail from a Staff member to stop.

At the bottom of Staff member e-mails is a 'threat' of sorts. If you report or share a Staff e-mail with anyone, you can be removed from RC. I didn't like this threat. How could any entity protect inappropriate behavior of its Staff?

Anyway, I shared the e-mail and within an hour was removed from the Team RC. I decided I couldn't support such a self-serving system. My belief is to help all people who need help with their fishes, in hopefully a fair and open environment.

I will contribute here when there may be a need, but I have set up a Disease Treatment Forum on two other systems. Not big traffic (less than here) but everyone deserves help. I remember too well how I feel inside when one of my fish is ill. :)

RC Will not be the same without you! You were the most experienced one in the Disease forum . RC will realize their mistakes when threads go unanswered and people get upset.

I don't frequent that forum as much either...people want to take the easy way out when it comes to their fish...I get tired of reading all the new ways people treat ich now:rolleyes: Garlic, lugols, the 'ichy ichy bye bye' dance. The ich that comes and goes but the fish fight it off because their healthy..People ignore what people like yourself have studied and proven to work and follow the advice of someone who feeds their fish bananas:eek:

Sorry to hear of your treatment at RC...You were a valuble member and spent so many hours helping people, you did not deserve that!!

Maybe I should complain;)

Thank you for your consideration and thoughtfulness (and kindness) in your reply post.

It's one of those things. I am only the most recent 'retiree.' RC has lost many good 'experts' this past year. Of the few remaining I expect a couple more yet this year will leave.

I'm trying not to think of the posts going unanswered and fish going un-helped. Definitely against my nature. :doubt:

Lee

Nice to see you here :D I share the same views of RC and is why I just stick to the chem forum. RC has basically fallen apart at the seams, basically do to the Bomber threads, whom is one of my best friends on the internet ( and personally) .

Hi Boomer!

I didn't know you skulked about here! Good to see you here.
