So I purchased a new icecap 250w mh ballast about three months back and today I noticed my bulb not turning on. I switched the bulbs around to make sure it wasn't the bulb first (they were all fine) Then I plugged the ballast back in and watched as it struggled to ignite the bulb. Right as it was about to warm up it turned off. It does this everytime I try plugging it in. If I leave it plugged in, the bulb gets pretty hot yet does not ignite. Any suggestions on what can be done to remedy this issue or is it time to place an order for a new ballast?
thanks
jeff

I had to hardwire it because I couldn't find the adapters for the new models. I'm sure this voids all warrantee. It's always something.

I would still look inside the mogul itself.

-hey if thats it horray if not :-(

I just had 2 bulbs go south due to an inproper connection inside the ceramic post !
Actually arc erroded the metal tab on the side of the bulb partially away !

That was one of the first things I checked and that all seems to be fine. When it does get the bulb on, it just burns so dull and then after a few minutes just craps out.

Ouch sounds like Your out a ballast :-O

Id still call the MFG and explain everything just to see if they can explain why!

Who knows maybe they will give you new connectors/adapters and a discount ?

couldn't hurt !

The funny thing is, one of my timers blew out two days ago as well. I never claimed to have the "electronic" touch. I always seem to be the guy that breaks the copier, or has the fax machine screaming at me, I get the blue screen of death more then most and I still can't operate a cell phone :)
Thanks for all the advice everyone

I don't think this would void your warranty, If you know you did it right, then I'd call them, people hard wire ballast all the time. If you call, ask for Andy at Ice-cap & tell him all of the details. ;)

I've dealt with icecap quite a bit recently and they pretty much warranty all their stuff for 5 years and under most any circumstances unless its water damage that is the big thing they wont mess with. Ive sent in my 660 VHO ballast and they sent it back with no questions asked and all fixed.

Some stores will offer loanner ballasts so you wouldnt be without while they send you a new one.:p

Chris is the man .
ICE CAP is great with honoring but they are not quick about it,(jersey)
