New Lighting

I finally got my new 250watt MH 20K HQI lighting yesterday and I noticed a huge difference. I was using a 20k SPS bulb and I was pretty happy with it. Then I noticed that after about a year the bulb was dimming out a bit and my LFS recommended that I try out the Ushio 20K. Well I can see why, I love the blue color but it is bright as heck and the blue is by far the best I have seen in any bulb I have ever used. M first bulb was a 14K that came with my current sunpod but it just didnt have the color that I desired.

I switched to a Guisemann 15.5K and it was ok but too yellow, I returned it for a Phoenix 14k and that worked very nice for a year. Then I switched to a 20K SPS for a year and now I went with a Ushio and I am fully impressed. Even after 1 day, I am getting polyp extensions on my dying Green Slimers and on the rest of my Montiporas and stylos, and birdsnest. I also bought a wave maker and that has been a pretty cool device to tinker with. The corals both SPS and LPS and softies seem to like the change of currents that the wavemaker makes.

Anyone else use Ushio and what are your thoughts? The only other supplemental lighting I use is two Rio moon lights at night time after the main lighting turns off. For me, I just love the blues that 20K has. I know that the growth rate will be slower but the colors are out of this world.

I also use the 20k ushio on both my 150mh and 250mh. I've been pretty happy with it and have no complaints.

I love the nice blue color to it, no actinics needed for sure. Again, suprised, that the dying Green slimer is starting to come back to life. I find it weird that in 1 day the polyps are starting to come out after changing bulbs. I didnt move the corals, I left them where they were at before. I am using just about everything my LFS uses with the exception of the salt. The use Tropic Marin while I use Ocean pure. The salinity is the same as mine, so that makes acclimation easier IMHO. They use 400W Ushio MH mogul lighting in pendent lighting while I use hqi lighting.
