So I have 3 175w Halides over my 120g. I just ordered new bulbs (2X14k and 1 20k all Ushio) I know sometimes that the bulbs can take a while to fire up the first time but neither of the 14ks will light. The 20k turned on right away and works in all three sockets. What gives...any thoughts. They're all being run on a hamilton ballast. Not sure what the model is but two of the bulbs are on one switch and 1 bulb is on a sperate switch. Thanks
Jeff

Almost sounds like you got a bad batch of bulbs or they were damaged during shipping, but I would find it odd for 2 of the same types of bulbs to be damaged  Only other thing that comes to mind is could they have possibly sent you 150w or 250w 14K's instead of the 175's??? Not sure what affect it would have on a bulb being used on the wrong ballast, but thought I'd toss out the suggestion so you can maybe check to be sure the bulbs actually say 175w.

Sorry I have nothing more to offer  Good luck getting things sorted out :)

i had that problem with an XM bulb once.. it fired the first day and never would fire in any of my ballasts after that... i waited hours and tried again and still nothing.. i sent it back and the fish store said it fired right up for them:confused: the replacement bulb they sent never had any issues at all.. i got them to send a different brand as the replacement.......you might want to check and make sure the nipple on the bulb is between the 10 and 2 postion.(only if you have mogul type bulbs) some bulbs will not work correctly unless the nipple is pointing upward like that

It's just funny that it's both of the 14ks. Thanks for the input. I contacted the company I got them from as well as the manufacturer so we'll see what they offer as far as an opinion or an exchange.

Krish is proably closest mis boxed.... or returned and resold something like that....
