Equipment 4 sale and Livestock 4 sale forums not being searched or listed by the New Post search engine. Have not had any show up for 3 days so went and looked under their respective forums and found recent activity. "New Post" Search engine need tweaking?

Take a look at this thread here. I noticed the something similar.
http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18991

Chuck gave me a reasoning in PM. Here's part of that PM.

Short answer is, I want this site to be known for helpful reefkeeping information sharing to help hobbyists learn and be informed. The water fountain is certainly not a reef related area and I do not want the site to be known as a glorified classified ads site. Our main goal is to not be a site to buy and sell used goods. If people want to buy and sell they can go directly into those forums.

Thanks for sharing James, helps clear that up.
I personally consider the 4 sale strings an integral and vital part of RF.
Would have been nice to be notified of the change.
Guess he's a pretty busy guy.
If possible, Will have to create my own search parameter link, LOL

I can understand Chuck's response to you, and his reasoning.

I have subscribed to both of the forsale forums (equipment & livestock). All I have to do is click on "User CP"... and they show up there now for me, and if there are new posts, the little checkmark thangy (on the left side) lets me know.

Works good for me this way... and at the same time, from the main page, I'm only seeing new postings that are informational... and I actually like that now.

Yeah I thought it was weird aslo. I seem to remember a discussion about those forums though. I thought there was a poll or something, but for the of me I cannot find it.

All in all the resoning works for me. I'm just glad i figured it out my issue on my thread. it was bugging the hell out of me.

Chucks a busy guy, I'm sure he meant to post it but got lost in the daily activities. Eitherway this site is much better than the other get banned for having a debate/discussion sites. :)

Other? This is the ONLY reef site in my universe.
Guess there are some other blogs that occasionally chat about aquariums in between the prevalent self-righteous flame wars.

This site at it's worst is better than all others combined at their best.
Thanks to all who make it so!

Isn't that the truth. I have to admit I might visit some of the other(s) for research but I never post to them. Not worth my energy and time.

Thanks for the complements guys, I've been on just about every major board for years but this one is peaceful, the search thing as Chuck said is to help keep our focus, it was getting out of hand there for a while, we hope it will improve everyones reefing experience, I know it is handy to pop up the new stuff for these forums but we figure if your looking of selling you'll find it, guess it could of been a little more publicly informed but we were in the middle of trying to recapture our reef site, there I said too much:)

*moving to the Feedback and Suggestions Forum*

I know there are a lot of people that browse those forums, but for me, it was difficult to weed through all the threads that weren't reef discussion related questions when clicking New Posts. Now, I know the threads that show up on my search are one's I check out first. I can check in on the Water Fountain and the For Sale forums when I get a chance. For me the various discussions forums come first. As stated eariler, subscribing to the forums is a good way to keep track of what's new.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. It just caught a few of use off guard. :) Keep up the great work up here admins.

Sorry I wasn't able to inform everyone when I did it. I have so many balls up in the air these days that when I do some things I just end up doing them and tie the ends up later :) This happened to be one of those things since I didn't think it was toooo invasive of a change :)

Like others said, I hope it continues to help us focus on reef related discussions a bit better but also keeping the other areas available to those that use them. In my opinion it keeps us thinking more about the hobby and information sharing than on buying and selling equipment and livestock. For those that are interested in equipment or livestock are going to head over to those forums no matter what.... I think .....

Anyway, sorry I didn't communicate that change better when I did it.

Is it my imagination or has the traffic volume dropped off severely recently? Seems to coincide with the search listing format being changed to exclude 4-sale items?

No, don't believe it has dropped off severely, just shows how much traffic the for sale items have been getting and the reason why I would love to steer people more into the realm of reefkeeping discussions instead :)

well even though i like checking the for sale forum everytime i can so i don't miss anything good :p, i kind of like it this way....... heck !! ever since these changes happened i feel like i barely visit the water fountain :p :D.
