+ 1 on a NEW Northend Reef Store and I think anywhere near the Tulalip Casino would be a very visable location traffic wise with all the concerts/events and what not, plus talk about discretionary spending I only gamble on fishing lures and livestock for my reeftank but others drop some serious coin up there. An added benefit is that the Tulalip Resort spends a whole lot of money on advertizing to get people there for all to share

I talked to a few saltwater keepers in canada that complained they had no good stores around. They can not get coral in their area and most of the fish stores are closing up because of overhead costs they cant afford to stay open. They said they had gone all the way to portland for fish. They would love to see something in the north end closer to them. I can let them know your there when you get going. I think there is a big demand in the Everet to Marysville area and should work out good for you.

I'd say from first hand that Mill Creek Town Center would be out due to the cost of leasing the space. They're asking premium $$$ for those. As for areas I'd say that from Lynnwood north will be your best bet. Also be sure you have an idea of what the insurance is goin to cost as a lot of spaces that are for lease will require you to have some sort of flood insurance or the sort. A lot of lease companies don't even like the idea of aquarium shops due to the potential for flooding.

And from experience if you're going to make a go at this and be sucessful you had better get a game plan for doing aquarium maintenance and set up/lease accounts as this is usually how a lot of retail saltwater marine aquarium shops are able to stay afloat. Selling to the hobbiest is just a small perk in the whole business. The real $$$ usually comes from maintenance accounts.

Excellent comments from Alex... as a former owner of a retail speciality store I can tell you that leases, insurance, signage, and initial start up costs are significant and cash flow is everything. A whole lot of thinking about your business plan is in order before you sign for anything!

well i think i am going to take the plunge and open a new reef shop in the area.
i haven't decided where the location yea but it will be in the north end area Lynnwood , Mill creek, Everett area. any thoughts or comments would be appreciated.

I will be selling high end fish corals and tanks.

Would love to see it! I am new here in the Edmonds/Mukilteo area and would love to have something like this closer to home.

Problem with the Canada customers is when they try and take stuff across the border the corals and or fish can be confiscated by customs as it is illegal for them to take live stuff across the border without the proper documentation.

A north store would be nice. I live in Mill Creek area and of course as many ppl have said, the only close are ARSA, Dennys, and Reef Mystique.

As mentioned earlier, silverlake might be a pretty good area. You have Costco there, and Winco will also be going in there next year. (the old furniture store building) Grocery shoppin and aquarium stores

I just heard about the winco and am very excited (kinda strange being exicted over a grocery store) as i make the trip up the the marysville one atleast once a month. If there was a fish store near there (also close to the mall and I-5) I'd certainly be in there atleast once a week (groceries shopping and all)
