I think it may still be breaking in as its only been running 2 days, my dad managed to lower the collection cup but the bubbles still aren't rising high enough. It produces alot of bubbles though

Hi, I like your tank setup and sump! Your newest coral looks great and everything looks happy. Sadly, jebo makes a pretty crappy skimmer with minimal air and water mixing. Give it time and it will do better but might not ever get where you want it.

Check with skimmerwhisperer to see if there is a better pump or a mod for the pump that you have now.

There was a guy on another forum that was pulling out 1/4 cup of brown foamy gunk everyday with this

it was probably a modified jebo ps160 or even ps75 that you saw, both of which are much better than the model you have. and it is not , NOT rated for 180g...
hopefully you didnt pay much for it...
and yes, craptacular as it might be, you should let it break in for a week or 2 before you worry too much about it's performance (not that there will be any performance).
this skimmer is basically a cheaper version of the sea clone, so imo, not even worth modification, unfortunately.
$32 bucks for a POS isnt that much to pay for a good lesson, some people spent $200 on a POS...

...just say a little prayer for your $32, and move on to a decent skimmer :)

so what size tank are you trying to skim?

That's the way it happens. Every tank is going to have different results. I bought a octo recirculating 150 after reading over 100 pages of good results. Now I have it and I hate it. Find what works for you and run with it.

Gotcha, I'm just trying to see what's out there for under 150$ shipped...how about coralife seaclone?

Oh and the skimmer had a line of gunk around it where the bubbles are in the 2nd picture when i returned from my snowboarding trip i just dont know how to make them go any higher

A css worked on my 75 alright. They are really touchy as to the water level. So an ato or separate sump area is required. You can get them really cheap. I sold mine for 100 shipped. Then it came back cracked (usps).

Take a look at these two. I'm new to this whole thing and am looking to buy my first skimmer and want to be able to purchase lights and stuff after this purchase, so price does matter. These are the new Octopus Xtreme in-sump skimmers.

I've seen recent conversations about the SWC Xtreme 160. I think that these are different companies but am not sure. The SWC has the pump under the skimmer. If you get one of these, or if someone has one, please let us newbies know whether or not they are worth it. Best bang for buck type theory. If I do good in the hobby, I'll go crazy for the H&S, Deltec, or Bubbleking. :)

Tell us your budget......IMO I would save money and buy a whoppass skimmer it will save you TONS of headaches in the future.

As a guideline only, for a 75 gallon tank I would spend no less then $300 for a brand new skimmer.
