New skimmer help!

Yes, that the same skimmer I posted the link to. If your real brave and have the proper tools you can buy a couple peices of PVC , a couple rubber seals and do the recirc mods yourself. Also, changing the needle wheel to a mesh wheel increases performance of alomst any skimmer as well.

If you get the octo. NW 200 it will likely be all the skimmer you need without doing the mods to it. At least for the time being.....

But, like everyone else said, if you shop craigslist and your local reef club forum you can likely find the same skimmer or better for less money.

The octopus has a wider, taller reaction chamber than the ASM. IMO it compares closer the the ASM G-3. you have to take the tank ratings with a grain of salt. I wouldnt recommend my G-3 with every mod possible for a tank larger than a 120 with heavy bioload or a 150 with a medium bioload.

Have to agree. A decent skimmer with the right pump and proper mods, bigger is better and the NW 200 is bigger.

get this one!! trust me, i own it and it rocks!! even stock out of the box, no mods...
but i of coarse did mod the venturi, it smokes...i couldnt mesh mod it because it was too powerful, but it doesnt really need it.

With a price like that and skimmerwisperers seal of approval Id get it. He sees more skimmers in a week than most of us see in a lifetime of the hobby.

Well it looks like the needlewheel 200 is going to be too big and the octopus extreme might be touchy getting it in.

it doesnt compare...

the new octopus xtreme with the sicce psk 2500 pump will smoke any octopus skimmers with the hailea ocean runner style pump.
if joker can afford $300 after shipping for the xtreme 160, then he should do it, but he said he was looking to spend about $150 shipped.

well, you probably did something wrong if were talking about the old style octo nw 150, it is the same octopus 2000 pump, but the design for the new skimmer is totally different, so you cant mesh mod it without overpowering the skimmer, but you dont need to, the skimmer is plenty powerful out of the box, only the same old lame crappy venturi needs modding on the new model imo.
