Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

For those of you in the South Sound, there's a relatively decent LFS in Lakewood - Aquarium Paradise. They do both salt and fresh, drygoods etc.

With that in mind, I was shocked and appalled to find that there isn't really much of anything north of Bellevue/Issaquah. Mount Vernon has a store that's been up less than a year. I've been in several times, and am not completely sold. Their hardware is inferior. Obviously cheap to import from Taiwan. Most of the tanks look okay, but they aren't quarantining their stuff, so it's moving through the store too fast to see if its really healthy.

Clark's Feed n Seed in Bellingham used to have knowledgable staff, but their tanks never looked great. Can't say if that's changed though as I haven't been in in probably 5 years.

With all that said, I'd vote for Everett. Would likely draw from Lynnwood/Bothell/Mill Creek, and would draw from up north too. Depending on the overhead, the Quil Ceda expansion would be prime real estate (Marysville near the previously posted outlet mall/casino) but I suspect it's pricey. Plus you'd have at least one customer....me!

hmm i'm gonna check those stores out dood !!
and Adam its ok :D, last weekend when i went to Blue Sierra i understood why would the costumer do things like that :(

Larry, I would think twice about Federal Way. The city officials are by far the worst in the state to deal with when it comes to building codes, etc. A good portion of businesses that try there either end up running out of money before they open, or they pack up and move elsewhere and eat the investment.

I would like too but depends on how much the retail space is going to cost. already have a big fish room planned. I will be able to order any tank for you if I do not have the room to stock it in the store.
equipment I will have a limited stock (due to there is no way that a retail shop can compete with marine depot/fosters smith) I will stock a few beckett skimmers. Ill try to find remora's. I will have MH lighting not too many stores carry MH'S so I will. ahh too much good stuff going on.

When I was working at an LFS I contacted Remora. They said they will not allow anyone to sell them online so you need a photo of your storefront, tax ID number and a few other things to get going. But Marine Depot has them, and a few other big sellers that don't have storefronts...
Here is their website:

Congrats on the store!

i see Larry.
Well i hope that whatever you do goes fine :), i wish you all the luck and i hope you're store has a huge success

location?? I have been looking around at places and really like what westwood village in west seattle has become. They have Target, barnes and noble, bed bath and beyond, staples, and so much more. There is a ton of foot traffic, but the downside is it's 10-15 minutes off of I-5 would you eastsiders still come??

second is a idea the I have been pondering for awhile put up 2 stores on both sides where I-5 and I-405 intersect in the north and the south. I found a nice new mini-mini mall thing right next to the airport. (good thing but no foot traffic) its very resonably priced not a whole lot of parking.
And in shorline well anywhere on aurora would be a very very good thing lots and lots of traffic.

So there is my dilema. I am building a house in west seattle so I will be moving there sometime in the next year so close to home would be nice. online store will be close to the airport, or I will add a fish room into my house plans:D

well dood i think that it's good you're looking for a location close to your future home :) .
But just so you know, where i live right now which is in Mill Creek :p they're building a little mall (it's gonna have a huge parking lot), it seems like they're looking for someone to rent the places, there's houses being built and new little stores.
I mean the neighbour hood is not that bad, you don't get to much traffic but you have bothell Everett hwy right there :D.
Anyways, i hope you find a place you like.

I have to tell you that there is a major hole in the north end (Lynnwood, Mill Creek, Alderwood). We have Petco & Denny's pet world...that's it. The next closest store SWC in bellevue and getting in and out of Bellevue is just not worth it most times. The commute would be a major drag...that's for sure, but you'd be close to the future home of NASCAR.

You might even be able to get your shipments to go through Paine Field in Everett.
