 I will be setting up my first salt water tank next week, once I fill it with R/O water, stock it with live rock, do I need to add any other additives to the water while the live rock cures for a couple of weeks, or will it do its own thing???

I would not add any additives to your tank IMO just let it run its course. I have learned during my process that the most important thing is PATIENCE! It will be a long process but it will be well worth it in the end and everyone on this forum will be of great HELP! Hope that helps...
and GOOD LUCK!!!!

One thing I learned that I will pass on to you is to do a lot of research and plan, plan, plan...because this will make the process a lot easier...

i'll second that one.
you shouldn't need to add anything (other than salt mix) to your water. additives should only be added when there is a need for them, as the trace elements begin to become depleted. normally speaking you should be good to go with just doing regular water changes. save your money for a good calcium reactor instead of bottles of this and that.

YEP just salt mix & WC are necessary, you supplement CA, traces are replenished with your regular WC & don't need to be supplemented again, first whatever you do, get good test kits, Saliflert comes highly recommended, then and only after testing would you supplement your ca, as you get more corals & advanced you can set-up a ca reactor.
