New to RF, really like it. Seems to be a little more laid back than RC, so far I've been lucky and haven't been kicked off yet;) .

Anyways, I just received a Tyree True Undata via fedex today, don't ask what I paid for it:oops: . Was looking for a little advise for placement after acclimation. Right know I'm running 400w xm 10k in a LumenarcIII reflector about 9-10 from water surface. I will be replacing xm with reeflux 10k soon. Don't like the xm, or aleast this one, seems a little on the yellow side. I think it's just about had it, color shift maybe? I plan to put the undata close to bottom of tank at first, how high do you guys think it should end up being.

Thanks and again I think I'm going to like it here.......

Welcome to the forum Patt!!!! this is definately more laid back..you don't have 10,000 people arguing and giving you wrong info!!! everyone here is very helpful ..i am not sure about your question, but i'm sure Anthony ,Kevinpo , or someone else will be very helpful..

Welcome to Reef Frontiers, Very nice to see you.:)

ReeferPatt,
I like Xm 10Ks. I believe they are sensitive to nipple orientation. I blew one out because it was not hanging level also. Actually, I blew out two of them like that. I am running them now on my PFO HQI and Sunlight Supply HQI ballast and really like the color and growth.
If you get a chance read Sanjay Joshis thread on this bulb.

Here is a article by Anthony. Please read lamp orientation.

ReeferPatt,

Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!!

Now... down to the IMPORTANT STUFF!!!

Where's the Pic's???? :D :D :D

Unfortunately, I'm new to the SPS world, and have never owned a Undata, so don't have any good information to you. I would start it out as you are... low... then slowly move it upwards, and see how it responds for you. I would imagine, as with our other corals, IT will show you where it likes being. :)

Keep us posted... and again, Welcome aboard!

Hi ReeferPatt;) , I have my Tyree undata mid tank now and I've had it just less than a week. I am not moving it up for the time being. The reef tank it came from he kept it mid tank and he is running 14k phoenix's.

Hope this helps..:D

Hey SueT, long time no hear from you;) . Right now it's on the bottom of the tank placed on a flatish pc of rock. I'll leave it there for several days and then start moving it up....

Hello Ed, Thanks for the welcome.
Just read the article, I've seen the light racks over some tanks on other forums. Don't think it would be to practical in my case, tank is only 36" long. It's a 70g. I hope it grows up to be a 180 by this time next year:lol: . Interesting though about the orientation of the dimple in the bulb. I'd of never dreamed it would make a difference in color or kelvin. Will have to wait till lights out, don't want to walk around seeing spots, and I think it might be a tad warm right now.
Thanks for the info.
Oh yeah, I've read alot of sanjay's stuff, not sure I understand most of it, but I do get the jist. If they were'nt so darned expensive I'd run Aquaconnect 14ks. Sanjay gave those the best reviews. But at $145 a pop I think I'll just have to settle for xm's or reeflux:D

Sorry LakeEd, no pics right now, no camera. That's next in my thing to do. First I need to get this darn cast of my arm/wrist. Been broken for going on 6 mos. I've been reefen since 91 or 92. Mostly lps, got into sps for more of a challenge. I traded out all of my lps several months ago, did alot of research and asking questions before hand. I think I picked SueT's brain until she was ready to shoot me or swat me away like a knat.:D . Just kidding Sue, you've been a great help and seem to be a pretty good gal.

Welcome! Pretty hard to get kicked out of this place. Takes two to have a fight and pretty hard to find any angry words here. I personally attribute a large part to Reef Frontiers, for getting me so energized over the hobby: make that passion!

All we ask is to send money, all you can get, care of my paypal account:lol:

Seriously, enjoy the site, I sure do!

^^^^^^ That's funny, you crack me up. Just be glad it wasn't the other way around, not much left to pick...:D just a few cobb webs

Again welcome. What we lack in numbers here we make up for in coolness. I haven't been here long, but everyone is courteous and knowledgable. Peolpe aren't afraid to say they don't have the answer, were with some other places people will make stuff up and then argue even though they're spouting B.S. Plus Krish is like having a 100 members alone!!! Just kidding.
