GH - General Hardness is measured by ppm
that salt in my tank is a little higher its normally 1.022
KH is Carbonate Hardness +ppm
I will have to buy a new Calcium Kit mine is out dated

Your salt level needs to be at 1.025-1.026, unless you're running a fish only system.

I'd recommend getting individual test kits, such as Salifert or Elos. They're much more accurate that the All in one "Master Kits."

If possible, test your Alk in dkh or meq/l, as these are a much more standardized system, than ppm, in marine aquaria.

I agree with Sid...You need to get your salt levels up, but over a period of time. I wouldn't suggest raising it from where it is at now to 1.025 all in one shot. :)

One of the problem problems with using tap water is evaporation. If you think about it and you lose one two gallons a day for several years then lets say that you lose 1.5 gallons per day then if you only do the same water changes month after month then your solids, contaminants and toxic elements condense. So three years of evap will mean that you have about 1500 gallons of water thru your system and you are then dealing condensed contaminants. I used tap water for years and about once a year i would have a crash. I couldnt afford an rodi and so i started doing large water water changes every 3 months. 50%. That helped but I still had to fight algae. One year ago i switched to rodi and focused on water quality. Because now i believe, as reefer, that we keep water storage containers and we happen to keep fish, rock and coral in it.

I would recommend more water changes and occasionnally a large one. You could also have a problem with copper contamination or low iodine. How ever crabs kill snails for bigger homes.
