OK IF I CAN SPEAK MY MIND FOR A SECOND IVE BEEN WANTING TO SAY THIS FOR A WHILE SO BARE WITH ME PLESE

ive noticed some pretty big tanks on here, big enough to house sharks or at least small ones, maybe even black tip reef sharks

and yet no one has them

i mean if your gonna get a 600 700 gallon tank why not get a shark

am i the only one on this site that LOVES THEM???

yes i know all the hassles the expense and the care, but if you can afford a 700 gallon tank is money really a issue

i just kinda makes me mad to see some 1 with a rtank that big and yellow tangs swimming around in it it just seems like a waste

i do love aggresive fish though

just wondering

i have a plan of getting a nurse or black tip shark a couple of each maybe to go in a 2000 gallon tank with other big aggresive fish

just wondering if anyone else on here has sharks or why no one has sharks please!!!!

thanks

I think, IMO, for some people, 600-700 gallons is too small for a shark...

There are some cool Heterodontus sp.

Best,

In one of my old threads, I posted a picture of a baby nurse shark my friend and I caught here in the wild that he put in a 75gal tank. It was only in there for a few weeks max though and he put it back in the ocean. Also, there are lots of people with bamboo sharks etc. In any event, not all people who have big tanks want sharks. Alot of people would rather have a beautiful community tank full of corals and fish. Keep your eye on the 35000 gal thread...Someone is doing one here and wants a black tip :D

The sharks that fit in the smaller tanks like the bamboos or cat sharks are pretty boring. They just sit on the bottom in one place most of the day. But that's just my opinion
Your plan for sharks in a 200 is unreasonable for any shark for its lifespan. The two sharks you mention, The nurse gets 12' long and a black tip 6' and is a very active swimmer and needs lots of space. Plus fish like tangs and angels will pick on the slower moving shark and could cause harm.
Good luck if you choose to get a shark. And please read Scott Michael's, Aquarium Sharks and Rays. It has a lot of good info.

IME A tank with one or two large, agressive predators is extremely unattracive and boring compared to the same tank full of smaller, more attractive, energenic fish. IMO Predators typically are somewhat lethargic until feeding time.

Get back to us when the shark of your choice has grown too big for your system, and you cannot find anywhere to get rid of it.

Trillyen, sharks are cool. Unfortunately I cant get any until I get that super villan set-up from the james bond movie. When that day comes... whatch out!

lol i ment 2000 gallon tank

where is that 35000 gallon tank thread at???

im aware of people wanting smaller more beautiful fish and corals, but out of allll the huge tanks on this site there are NO shary tanks in house

i just dont understand

i would love to have a 35000 gallon sharkl tank but theres this lil issue called space and money im trying to get straight

it seems i only have a few shark lovers in this thread also!!!!!!

I am a shark lover. After doing a years worth of reading I found that they are better left in the ocean or very large public aquriums.

Okaybut what makes the fish keepers at the zoo any more expierenced than the professionalhome aquarist???

not saying im a pro, but by the timei have the $$$ for the 2 g tank i will be

not much reading on the home aquarist reef shark ornurse shark though

where would you buy 1????

LOL!! Money, A staff containing zoologists and vets with the resources to get the medicine and antibiotics the animals(sharks in this case) need. A full time staff that works 8 hours a day(in some cases 24/7) to keep water parameters in check.
Do I really need to go on?

I really dont have anything against someone who want to keep sharks as I too like aggresive fish. My reef is rather aggresive for that matter. With comments like the quote above I feel its my duty to Razz you.:p

ok i get the idea, but i guess ill have to find out on my own

i will have a shark tank one day over 100,000 gallons in my house around the outer parameter

man the lighting for it is gonna be the most expensive part!!!!

yeah i may use sunlight as the natural lighting thing but at night i may have some moonlights set in place where the sharks hang out at

i would really like to try to get them to breed

i dont think ANY ONE HAS DID IT BEFORE!!!

I used to play with sharks in Indian Wells, Fla.. They were boring, all they did was lay there. Must have been babies...it is a good thing because I was only 7  . I caught some hammerheads off the pier and some nurse sharks...we always threw them back. Grandad said they were not worth eating. Same with Yellow Jacks.

I heard here in Maryland at the Baltimore aquarium we have one of the only great white sharks in captivity. I think thats insanely cool
