but my BTA (just plain but very healthy bubble tipped anemone) is eating Kyroin miysis shrimp and spirolina brine shrimp, frozen, defrosted and rinsed in RO/DI water. It has established it's self in the tank (no moving) and it has friends (a cleaner shrimp and a blue green chromis. My lfs OWNER said just make sure and feed it. I agree but like how much?

Thanks in advance
Oh and eventually It will need bigger food I think. Help.

P.S. Its name is It.

Im luck enough to have a clown host my green bubble. He usually feeds it. I would feed it around 2 to 3 times a week. Your tank is the same size as mine. 55gal. I feed my fish around the same, and it seems to be doing just fine.

Some people I've heard feed once a week, and some twice. How much at a time will all depend on how much you feed at each feeding and what you are actually feeding as some foods are more "filling" than others. Just a thought...:)

i have a RBTA (which just spilt into 4) and I never feed it. Maybe 10 times in a year. I do have a clownfish that probably helps. I wonder about this also but it has always looked good w/o feeding so I dont mess with it. Its under a 150w MH. Not saying this is right or wrong but this is what I have been doing.

O.K. Next question.... Can I accidently overfeed it? I mean if my water stays within the same parameters?

i feed my LTA every week half cube of frozen formula 2 (red kind) ... the only thing i'd be concern is about stressing it because in my case i got a shrimp that's always trying to steal food from it, i got a fish that wants to eat whatever the anemone has too.... so things like that.

now i'm not sure but don't anemones split because they're stressed?? i see many people happy because their anemone split  but isn't that bad for the anemone?? just wondering doods :).

I went from "baby-sitting" a small 3" GBTA, to owning a monster 18" GBTA... all in about a 6 month time frame.

When I was asked to "baby-sit" this anenome, it was pale, and very shrivled up looking. The person that was moving his tank had NEVER given it any food, believing in "Survival of the fittest"??? One thing leading to another, a salt-water system never did get up and running again for my friend, so now his bubbletip lives with me.

I started out feeding it about 1/4 of a piece of raw shrimp, twice a week. I judged the size of the food, by the length of its mouth. True, I know its mouth can streatch, but I didn't want something that looked like it was just hanging on, to have to work too much to get its dinner. As it grew, so has the size of the food.

Currently, I feed it about twice a week... with either a full raw shrimp, raw bay scallop, silverside... or when I want to give it an extra treat, I do raw Squid. Since it is now this MONSTER in my tank, I think it has enjoyed the feeding. I try and varry what it gets for dinner, thinking that I sure don't want to eat the same food every night, why would any of the animals I care for?

I will have to also admit that my current tank setup is probably a healthier environment than what it came from as well. I have 1000Watts of MH, along with VHO actinics... excellent circulation due to a close-loop, and heavy skimming.

All of those things, along with the feeding, I attribute to the health of this Anenome.

The fact that your has "Found its home", and isn't roaming all over your tank is a very VERY good sign! They tend to continue moving until they find a spot that makes them happy. Several things fit into them finding that spot... like the texture under its foot, water flow, lighting, food, water quality, who is pestering it... and yours sounds like its a very happy camper! :D

God Ed, That story makes me want to cry:D :D :D :D

Very good advice tho!!!

Spongebob, I have heard that also, but then again, I have heard that regular feeding makes them want to split also, so I don't know what would be the cause. But as Ed says, if he is happy, you are happy!! I think that is what Ed said.:D :D :D

*Passing Charlie a box of Kleenex*

I know, once I start typing, can't seem to get my fingers to stop... SORRY ALL!

Gabby, the only problem I have is, I wanted my new tank setup to be a SPS only tank. Now, I've lost about a 1/4 of my tank to this darn BTA! ;)

Realize that my Sailfin is about 6.5" nose to tail... this kinda shows the BTA.

I believe technically you don't need to feed them at all. They can survive on lighting and any food that comes there way. But if you want it to grow and maybe split you will need to feed it. Once a week I feed my tank a cube of frozen mysis shrimp and I use a turkey baster and give them a small shot each.
