friends, happy holidays!
I may be relocating to Dubai, UAE and since it is surrounded by warm water i was wondering would i be able to start my own reef using sand and salt from the ocean? Thanks!

Yes with UV sterilization/filtering etc etc. It has been done...but I think it is very inefficient.

I wouldn't recommend collecting sand, unless you're collecting from several miles away from shore. Most people who regularly collect sea water, also collect it from a long way from shore, to minimize local pollution issues.

I agree with Sid. any pollutants in the water will concentrate closer to the shore.

not to mention i think dubai is out of sand...its a huge deal right now cuz they are trying to finish the "world" and "palm" island still and i think they actually are importing all their sand now
