I thought it would be fun to do some "off-topic" photos. Plus I really want to show off a couple of shots I took in the Butterfly House.

I took these with a Canon G3 set on Aperature Priority and Macro mode. I did not use a tripod, so I believe I had the f-stop on the lowest setting.

By the way - I don't have Photoshop, so I had to use the program that came with my computer. However, I do have Photoshop Elements on my "want list".

Last one - this is of a flower (obviously).....

It's called iPhoto (yes, my computer is a piece of fruit...as Mike likes to call it), and all I do is click on the enhance button, then crop the picture if necessary. I only notice a slight difference with the enhance. Maybe I just haven't worked through the program enough to see if it has cool features.

Since its getting to be that time of year again, here's a picture from the beginning of the fireworks in Seattle last year on the 4th. Hopefully I'll have some much nicer ones this year after Sunday. =)

And a nice long exposure. This was taken at Snoqualmie Falls about 2 hours after sunset. The exposure is 30 seconds long, and I had a darkening filter over the lens to reduce the amount of light entering the camera to make the shot as long as I could.

One more for the night. =)

I'm just going to provide a link, since this image is several screens wide. Its a shot of the Seattle Skyline at sunset from Alki Beach. Its a composite of 17 images stitched together. Unfortunatly, a gust of wind hit my tripod when I took a couple in the middle, and I haven't had a chance to retake this shot since, so its a little blurry in a couple of the middle pictures.

[EDIT: Here's a slightly less blurred pan of the middle section of the skyline at sunset also. Seattle skyline at sunset]

Nikki,

Your butterfly shots definately came out better than mine. You're becoming a great photographer.

Llarian,

That skyline picture is amazing!!!

Here's one of my butterfly pictures. I think I need to crop it down some though.

WOAH! Llarian - awesome photos! I love the falls picture....stunning!

Curt - crop that picture and let's see it.

See threads like this make me want to figure out my camera.... I like the fireworks one, just need to improve the whatsyamcallit to make it brighter and more vivid!

diggin the waterfall picture as well.

I'm starting to see the value in these graphics programs. I don't know how to do all of the settings yet but I decided to play around a bit.

Original crop of photo.

Llarian,
what type of camera are you using as well as the settings for the stitched picture?

I'm using an Olympus E-10 currently. Its not great, but it works fairly well. Need to upgrade before long, but not until I get the tank up and running so I can free up some money for a decent digital SLR.

I'm not 100% sure on the settings, since stitching kills the exposure information that's embedded in the image. The nighttime pan was taken at F2.4, 1 second exposures. The full-length one is 17 separate images stitched together.

The sunset one was taken in portrait orientation, and I think its 12 separate exposures. I have no idea what the settings were on that one anymore though.

I think I was using either PanoTools or PanFactory to do the stitching. I lost my stitching software when I reinstalled my computer last, so I need to re-download that.

[EDIT: Oh, I was also using a teleconvertor for both the pans, which makes my camera the equivalent of a 200mm prime lens.]
