Hey! another 55, just like mine!
I see all these big fancy tanks around and I think to myself that my bank account doesn't go that deep.
LONG LIVE THE 55!

By the way how many pounds of rock do you have, what kind of filter are you using, are you going for fowlr or a reef, how long has it been setup, what kind of lights are you using, and whatever else you want to tell us about your tank would be great.

i have the coral life fixture 260watts with like 6 flourscent bulbs 2 blue actinic 4 moon lights, which arent real lights but light emitting devices i hear(i might have screwed up the numbers but its def. 260watts)

have an empror 400 and a penguin for a 50g i 4got specific model. i plan to get a nice skimmer within the next 4 weeks maybe a power head aimed behind the rocks.

i plan on an in-tank refugium (just a small one)

i want to do a mixed invert tank with a few beginner corals and few fish (less then 5 fish)

the tank has been set up for almost 2 weeks.

there is coralline algae from the store on the rocks but some seems to have been taken over by brown diatoms.

how long 'til i can add hermits and snails and a serpant star???

Sounds like you have a good start to things, unfortunately you will probably have a lot more brown algae show up as your tank gets established, don't worry it will pass, just don't do anything too fast. You could probably start adding a few snails and crabs as your tank cycles, just pay attention to your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate levels as you start to add fish. Was your rock cured already or are you curing it? The best advice anyone ever gave me is don't overdo it early on, moving slow will give you and your fish a better experience. Heck I have had my tank for almost a year now and I only have 3 fish.
Just out of curiosity what kind of skimmer have you been looking at?

Tim

James734 is right, the prizm might look cool and sound like a good way to go but it just doesn't work very well. Your best bet would be the Remora.

Tim

Prizms, seaclones, etc... They all are a waste of money, because you'll be buying something better later on.

I would suggest an AquaC remora, or remora pro as well.
