Well this is my first BTA I have had. Man it is doing great, the best red color I have seen.

Well here is my question. I just got it last weekend. Maybe 6" around wen fully open.
Well I wake up to look into the tank and to mu surprise there are two of them. Now I know there was only 1 when I bout it.

Do they split that fast?
Now I have two of them to feed.

Is that normal??
Thanks all RF'ers!

Water changes and new tanks does prompt them to split in most cases. Perfectly normal. Congrats. Want to sell it?:D

Twillard, several things can bring on splitting. One is stress. Moving to a new tank, other new changes....etc. My theory is that they think they're dying so they split to improve the chances of survival. When they decide to split, it's usually pretty quick. When mine split, it was 1 and then a couple hours later, I looked in the tank and there were 2.

You'll want to leave both alone for a week or 2 and don't even try and feed. They split through the one mouth and it takes awhile for them to heal and each half to form a new mouth.
