Hi,

I have this dark green coralline algae growing in my tank as well as different shades of purple and red. I also have a small amount of lime green and aqua coralline. The olive coralline is really drab looking and seems to be about 50% of my total coralline growth.
Does anyone have any ideas why this color is so prolific? I looked on WWM but couldn't find anything about this particular "problem".
Thanks in advance.

I've had tons of coraline start out green before that evetually turned purple. Give it time and see what happens. Also, don't forget lighting plays a major role as well...Different colors will grow in different light intensities:)

Thanks Krish, I guess I am looking to find out what lighting this olive green coralline DOESN'T like I have 2 96w 50/50 cf (coral life retro fit on a 55 gal. standard). Any ideas appreciated :)

I've heard that coraline will be whatever color that corresponds with the light quality (temperature, wavelength, etc) that it gets in that area. I have pink, purple, red, green, and light peach colored coraline in different areas of my tank.

Thanks Jan,
Do you know anything more specific about the wavelengths of light that cause different colors?

Deb,

Once people go to stronger lighting, the almost always immediately lose the green coralline. Unfortunately, I don't know which spectrum in the lower power lights will solve your problem.

Thanks Planet Reef,
I notice that it is growing on the sides and back of my tank that is not getting direct light so this all makes sense. However on my rocks directly under my lights it is growing also. I asked over at WetWebMedia.com if they can answer I will post it here :).
