When I bought my tank used the guy selling it told me it had t5 lighting. well come to find out it's actually pc lighting (coralife 260w).

It's ok because the amount of live rock i got was almost worth the price of the whole thing.

But of course people are telling me I can't have any corals with this kind of lighting. Sooooo since I was in a bad mood after learning this I ordered a 2x250w MH +4x65w actinics+ led lighting fixture. I just set it up and can't believe my eyes. the difference is night and day (literally). It actually looks like real sunlight is hitting the water. I'm actually entertained just sitting and watching the empty tank with live rock now. unbeleivable!

It is awesome how it lights up your tank, and I agree with Krish, the shimmer and wave shadows on the bottom are cool!!

I had the same experience when I switched from just PC lighting. As the Halides warmed up my jaw just dropped further and further.

Acclimate your corals low and slow depending on where you get them - moving them up over time. In my new tank build I underestimated what a difference dropping my lights 4 inches would make on my corals (my old tank was 24" tall and my new one is 20" tall). I had to move a torch and frogspawn a bit lower as they appeared to be bleaching, which surprised me considering my halides are low watt versions.

Enjoy your new lights! Cheers,

Chris

I cannot wait to change over to the shimmer. Running 2-65w on my 20 now, but will be going with MH on my new tank.
What size is your tank?

yep.... it is true..

altho i ran t5's for a year and some...

when i saw my girlfriends 5.5 with that 70w HQi.... i knew right there it was only a matter of time... Ill never go back... it will always being hanging HID's for me.

just the reflection of the water on the ceiling is good enough for me.... even if the tank was empty it would still have HID's

the car, the garage, the tank. HID's!

(dont hate da Led's they are geting up there 2..)

side markers, inside lights, under the sink, moon light leds dont hate

that's kewl dood.
it's funnyt, even when you got nothing on your tank you will still look at it for hours... i used to do that

It's a 72 gal bowfront. I hope this will take care of my lighting needs for this tank once and for all

Glad I'm not the only one that looks at his empty tank. (Actually I do have some snails and a few hermits in there). I was starting to feel a little weird about it.

I remember when I set up my 20H and I only had the lr. I sat there watching all the copods and other cool things.
I am so anxious to get my 65 up and running, but I figure I am taking my time so I can have such a nice big tank as well.

Great Job on your tank,
Alex B.
