Ok, my two yr old grabbed a can of formula one flakes that was almost half full and dumped it into the sump. I have netted out a ton of it, I shook up the chaeto to get as much out of that as I could. i blew out the rock rubble & got a bunch out of there. I adjusted the skimmer to hopefully pull stuff out. I took out the filter sock and rinsed it out. I scooped out as much of the free floating stuff that got into the main tank, and hopefully a bunch is going back out the overflow and into that filter sock.
So now what? Anybody had this problem before? Any suggestions on what we can do to prevent, well, a ton of flipping problems? Anybody want a cute little kid to take home? He'll feed the fish for you:razz:?
This is 46g main tank with oh 20g or so in the sump. We have a clam, zoas, sps and lps in the tank, and a pygmy angel, a sifter goby & a lawnmower blenny.
And i swear the water is looking a little yellow already...

Thanks Jason, i was thinking that too, we run carbon 24/7 anyways, but water change for sure. my husb (jason!) was thinking we should wait a couple days for the food to dissolve so it'll come out in the water(?). I was thinking tonight would be better. maybe in 3 days also?

I'd do a water change today, and then, as you suggested, in about 3 days. That'll give it time for anything you miss to start to dissolve and get removed. I also think you'll be just fine. Gotta love the wee lil' ones huh? My 3 year old helped me do a 20 gallon water change on our 75 today. She held the hose for Dad and only got a little water all over the wall behind the tank....lol.

Lots of water changes flake dumps loads of P as soon as it gets wet. After it rots then youll be dealing with nitrates so lots of water changes.

Sounds like you got most of it out correct? The leftovers will be eaten by all the little critters in your tank for the most part. You can probably wait on the wc but I would do a couple over the next week or so. One tonight and one in a few days. :)

Thanks for all the good thoughts guys, that stinkin kid. I sent him to the back yard to play with the hose.

And the water is definetly turning yellow. Awesome. But the clam is opening up all the way again, and the trumpet corals are like, yea boy, we're eatin good in the neighborhood. And the dumb goby is looking at me like he's hungry, and I'm thinking, don't even go there with me right now.

I agree with everyone else. Do water change today and then I would do a water change every other day until the water clears up.
You need to remember that you are only taking a small portion of whatever is in your water column out with each water change.
And best of all is just keep testing your waters parameters.

Best of luck,
Alex

Alright...we did a 10 gallon water change, cleaned out the bottom of the sump, got all the food off the rubble in the sump, and so far so good, water is already clearing up! heres a pic of the water that was in the tank! Not good

Looks like someone went wee wee in your tank. *lol* j/k Glad to hear that it is already clearing up.

Keep us posted.
Alex

Well, for an update, she looks to be pulling through... there is a hot looking diatom bloom goin on, and the water is still beer/piss yellow. ;) But the fish have come back out of hiding and everything but the pocci & a couple zoos are all polyp'd out. But egad it stinks!!! It smells like ruston way on a hot day.
And i think my snails hair algae grew, its blowing in the wind very nicely.
