I am thinking about a closed loop for added flow. How do you think closed loop would compare to the vortex? I was looking that them and there a little expansive.

I would stay away from a closed loop system but that's my personal preference. You can find used vortech's for cheap all the time. You might get by with an mp10 if you're going the softy lps route.

I made my mind up on the closed loop and going to stick with the power heads. Im going to keep my eyes open for a vortex system, but if I dont find one I will go with a moded maxi-jet 12
