Starting filling up the tank last night, this morning there are ZERO leaks into the overflow. This is sooooo exciting!!!!!

I hope to have it filled by EOD with sump flowing beautifully into it eace:

So evidently I did not rinse my sand enough and I now have cloudy/milky water. I am inches away from getting the water high enough into the overflows, so tonight I will definitely have my sump running into the tank. Any ways to clean up the water quickly? I was thinking of getting a filter sock and hanging it temporarily to help take out the fine particulates when I get things flowing tonight. Any other suggestions out there?

Here is a short video of the first time i got to play with my sump! I built this acrylic sump with some help from my hubby, turned out pretty nice I think. Bubble trap seemed to work pretty we too. Also please excuse my wonderful family in the background

When I rinse sand, I rinse, rinse, and rinse some more. Usually outside with a garden hose and a bucket to sit on.
Seems like no mater how good you do it, there is always a cloud.
Filter sock will definitely help.
I use to have a old diatom filter I would use to polish water, so, any kind of hang-on filter/canister filter might help.

I think there is a leak in my brain :faint:.

I've had my share of leaks. My wife was never thrilled. I once drained half of my 75 gal on the floor so I can appreciate your joy

Congrats !! on no leaks and a fresh new system. Your sump is a work of art. Where did ya learn to weld acrylic?
Being you had no leaks maybe ya could lend me a dry hand with my plumbing project

Ya 1guy, I suppose I could have made the baffles a hair shorter it is a pretty full sump, but too late now! The display FINALLY has enough water in it and has been running all day, got the water flow tuned it pretty good. I am going to pick up a filter sock tomorrow at local LFS to get the dust from the sand cleared out grrrr freakin sand.

Krish, last night I shut off the return pump to see if the sump could handle the water load. After the overflows emptied, all the sudden the rest of the tank was lowering and lowering and lowering. My heart skipped a beat as I imagined my house flooded with water because I didn't know what was happening. Then we realized the return nozzles where siphoning out the display and dumping it into the sump through the pump! I guess we should shorten the return nozzles a bit.....

Not as intense as doing the first leak test will be, in the living room with hard wood floors. LOL

no need to shorten the returns. tiny little siphon break hole will fix that.. use a drill bit (make sure the hole faces down into the water). doesn't need to be big, just enough to let some air in.

As said a siphon break would help stop all the extra water from draining back to the sump, but there are risks doing that.
Shortening the return in the tank will work best.
