hey guys i dont know how many of u live down under but here the average price for a red line/blood shrimp is 100 to 150 most being 150 dollars am i getting tottaly ripped off or what i know there would be import tax but thats crazy but if u bred them u could make a fourtune any way any help would be great full

$150 AUD is about $110 USD, which seems really overpriced. I have never looked into buying shrimp but I thought they were around $20-$40 in my local area. Does Australia have to import all of the shrimp? I don't know if they can be bred or not, but that is something you should be looking into :)

Last time I checked at one of the LFS's in this area; they were $25.00, and the cleaners were $18.00. Some of the shops in Oregon are probably about $10.00 from they above prices.

I was in southern California a while back at a rather large wholesaler, and I noticed that they were $8 and change for each one (plus shipping). I remember thinking it was some kind of sale.

ohh boy that's a lot of money for a shrimp  (and i felt i was getting ripped off)
I bought one cleaner shrimp about 2 weeks ago and it was "25" plus taxes ended up being 29. 9ish something.
and the fire shrimps are about the same price too.

I bought a 6 jumbo shrimp yesterday for only $10 bucks USD.

They were great dipped in the cocktail sauce and horseradish too!

Origin: The Fire Shrimp is commonly collected from Indo-Pacific.

Hi Morgan they say it can be done but i think our tanks with Protein skimmers and fish & coral would just eat them up this is from one of the sponsers :
Fire Shrimp - Lysmata debelius
Also known as: Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, Blood, Fire Shrimp

Color: The Fire Shrimp has a red and white color.
Size: The Fire Shrimp may grow to 2 inches.
Diet: Carnivore.
Feeding: It likes to eat meaty bits of seafood, and detritus.
Behavior: The Lysmata debelius is generally peaceful toward other tankmates.
Care: Many consider the Lysmata debelius a low-maintenance specimen. Not venomous.
General notes: A shyer version of the Scarlet Cleaner Shrimp, The Fire Shrimp may also set up a cleaning station. It does prefer, however, to hide in caves and overhangs and will forage for meaty bits after dark. These shrimp, if kept in pairs or more, will spawn in the tank. Eggs will appear in the finlets under the carapace as a light green. Fry are difficult to raise but will feed the corals and fish in your aquarium. As the shrimp age they will tend to clean less and will wait for hand-outs. Can be trained to eat meaty offerings right from your fingers and will even offer a free manicure.. Some fish may harass or eat Fire Shrimps. These fish include Hawkfish, Groupers, Triggers, Squirrels, Lionfish and others.
Water parameters: Keep water quality high (SG 1.023 - 1.025, pH 8.1 - 8.4, Temp. 72 - 78° F).
Origin: The Fire Shrimp is commonly collected from Indo-Pacific.

holy sushi! my lfs here in northern cali sells those for 6.99 regularly... hmmm i could make some huge money selling them to australia lol

wow i didnt think this would get so much attention and now i know im getting ripped of my lfs owner who is a licencd coral clam and fish collector he gets the majority of his stuff from up north of the ningaloo reef which is on the west coast its about 400 to 500 km long its very impressive full of many plates and bright blue acropora and many others lovely animals, but he says he cant find cleaner shrimps up there, so they have to be imported so how much really can that cost say u got $25us shrimp and thats around $30au so reallistcly before importe tax u would chrage $50au $60au to make a profit which means import tax is like $90au thats if u import them from the u.s. but this guy once told me that u cant ship inverts over seas if so where do these shrimp come from singapore or something. its a great addition to any coral tank or fish tank

Last I checked you guys couldn't import anything as far as inverts. I would have to be caught in local waters, which would be a rear thing to say the least. How many spots did it have? all of them located on its carapace or did it have some on its back? More than none shrimp?

mostly redline and have seen many scattered in fish shops there is only 4-5 lfs that carry salt water stuff and i know a bloke with a coral and fish license who is free lance and also a mate who breeds coral and anaomes i belive the blood shrimp had 2 white spots on both sides near/under eye maybe more not sure
i havent seen pepermint or candy? if these are the same has anyone seen purple spiny lobster (panulirus versicolor) and how much they range for there
and if any one has seen a full grown painted crayfish they are awsome. sorry for any spelling mistakes as its late and ive had a few beers cheers

I thought i might chime in here, i live in W.A i have dived at ningaloo reef and i can tell you there is definately cleaner shrimp, also taking corals and other lifeforms from ningaloo i think is illegal for anyone, but will check up on it.
