Recently I was told - "If you think you may be overfeeding - you DEFINITELY are overfeeding". I'm trying to mend my ways in that regard (every other day for the fish from now on) but even so I'm left with a lot of detritus. This is evident when use the turkey baster to "blow off" the rocks and when I stir up the top layer of the sandbed. So - how do I get rid of all that crud? I've staffed-up my CUC, but I doubt that will do the job alone.

BTW - one of the new hermit crabs died - what an immediate feast for the snails. They zeroed in like heat-seeking missiles.

The thing with using criters to clean up detritus is that it goes in one end and back out the other. You need to get it up and out, so take a closer look at your flow.

I've been putting off getting a powerhead into the tank - that's a good suggestion. The Solana has dual flexible return nozzles so I can adjust those to get things stirred up also.

Thanx

flow

I believe more flow will help! I thought I had enough flow in my 20 Gallon, 620gph coming in through the return and 2 powerheads inside. on Saturady I finally bought a MP10, removed the powerheads, my rock and sand has never been so clean. It has also left the sand looking like it does when I dive Maui!

MP10 in a 20-gallon? I always thought that would be overkill - obviously not... Glad it works for you.

Its fully adjustable, cannot use it on max power, with the different settings you can do anything in your tank, I honestly can't believe i had not bought one before, I just did not know what it did.

I had great success removing detritus from the rocks using a hose with frayed ends, a sock in the sump and syphoning into the sock. Setup this way you can vacuum all day long if you like :)
