Have a 50G glass tank, and tired of everything having to hang off the back...
I would like to add a sump, and I am comfortable with drilling glass (have drilled about 10 different tanks).
My Issue is, I have no where to put my critters etc... Is it possible to lower the water enough, Silicone an overflow inside, then drill the glass? Has anyone attempted this?
Thanks

The only issue I can see with that would be the silicone leaching something into the water before it is cured, the glass dust shouldn't be an issue because it's basically sand. I would probably have some carbon in the tank if you do decide to do that. And of course a powerhead and heater.

you may want to look into a overflow box that is held on by the bulkhead. Like glass holes.com

I'd be hesitant with the water in since it produces more stress on the glass.
The other thing to consider here is if it does break, you still will have no place for your livestock. If you are going to do it, it would seem to make sense to have a place (Rubbermaid tub even) for them to go in case of disaster, and once you have that you have no reason to drill with the tank filled right?
