Hello everyone:

I am contemplating using ozone with my skimmer but have never tryed this before. Has anyone ever used ozone with a AquaC hang on the back model skimmer before? How is this done with this skimmer?
Another question: I understand that you must use carbor to remove the ozone if you use a ozone generaton. Must you filter the water with carbon before it is put back in the aquarium? Or can I just use ozone in my skimmer and use carbon in my Magnum Canister filter like I have been doing? I have a hang on the back aquac and the water drops right into the tank. I also use my Magnum 350 for carbon exclusivly while replenishing the carbon every 3 weeks.

So much to learn here, You all have been a great help

Jay -
Another option would be to add an AquaC overflow box. They do an ok job of containing the "return" water, and a pretty good job of acting as an overflow to supply the intake once you have them adjusted correctly. You could put GAC (carbon) in a drawstring mesh bag in the overflow - this is how I have mine setup ever since I removed my Magnum cannister filter.
One more thing - I have found everyone at AquaC to be amazingly responsive to problems or questions. (I don't work there - I just think it's cool...)

I will keep this in mind. And I just sold my bubble catcher box because it doesnt work with my pump upgrade I did for this skimmer. Do I have to use carbon right after the ozone or can I just use my canister filter piped from my display tank? I would think I will need to remove the ozone before it gets to my tank so I dont kill the bacteria in my LR and DSB........right?

I dont run ozone so I am not going to be very usefull to you on this.
Yes you must use the carbon directly after the mix chamber or at least before it enters the tank where livestock is. It is my understanding that a ozone generator without air dryer will create bromine? bromide? bleach and that is very bad. Also if your skimmer is not ozone ready it can cause problems. Also the understanding I have is that a redox meter at least is a neccesary piece of equiptment for someone running ozone. I understand it is very easy to over do it and really burn the tank up.
Sorry I cant be of more help.
Why exactly are you wanting to run O3 if I can ask?

Hey thanks for the info on the bromine. I did know I was supposed to use a air dryer but had not yet found out why. I think I seen one for sale for use with qzone. It looked like a inline canister the size of a sharpe ink pen and was filled with silicajel of another canion rezin type bead. I am trying ozone because I want to keep as healthy and disease free aquarium I can. Also I hear I can go further between water changes and save a few bucks in salt. I still have to get the orp controler and ozone safe tubeing. Thanks for the help wrightme43. I will be careful with this stuff. I just want to learn everything I can before I start useing it. All you people here have so much experiance to offer. I appreciate the help.
