well I have noticed it isn't cooling as good as it used to so today it is cleaning and maintenence time. White lithium oil for the motor(found by the wd-40) or wd-40 and a cleaning for the front airfilter. Anyone else do regular maintenence of these guys?

Brad, I'd pm Don if he doesn't chime in (DonW) He has quite a bit of experience with these chillers (replaced fans a few times etc.) I have a Pacific Coast chiller, but haven't had to do any maintenance on it yet other than cleaning the little filter that sits out front:)

I looked at my filter in front and no wonder this poor thing was struggling. runs like a champ now.

no wd-40! use real oil of some kind-2 or 3 drops of used motor oil would even work.

Yup, NO WD40 it will just evaporate. Sewing machine or other 10w oil. And definatly keep that filter clean and dry.

Don

don where do you put te oil. looks like the motor is between the big black thing and the fan.

Ya gota take it apart, but worth the effort every 6 months or so.

I took the whole front off and I believe I did the right part. I will take a pic one of these days.

Yup, you got it Brad. I deal with PC a lot and they can not overstress enough keeping the filter clean. Also oiling the motor every now and then is good as well. I still have an old bottle of electic motor oil ( left over from several old hydro thruster pumps) and it seems to do the trick. The new generation chillers are now sealed motors ( have not seen one yet) and Tim at PC says this should take care of that maint chore.

Brian when You see us in August I am going to be wearing my new wool sweater that I made from my air filter shavings.

here are pics of my shiller with the inside off.

I have now. posted the pic for people to see. a lot of people have this chiller. there are two screws in the bottom corners and that is all it takes to open it.

Thanks for reminder and information you Guys!

:) Wow, what a difference, temperature is coming down. This is what happens when you have a Chocolate Lab and Weenie Dog running around.
A little maintenance goes a long way. Thanks for sharing and heads up!:) :)

Squirt alittle on the drive shaft/bearings or what?

Nick

Yeah, The shaft the fan is attached to comes out of the motor. There's a small support bracket that has a bearing in there. Just squirt some oil in there. Not WD40.. But something like 3in1 oil or even sewing machine oil would work good. Just a good light weight oil..

Good heads up for chiller maint. I checked my jbj and the coil was about 1/2 full of dirt/lint.
Scott:)
