Padding between Tank Stand and Acrylic

Maybe a basic question but I'm just about finished rebuilding the tank stand for a 160 gallon acrylic aquarium. Do you need to put down anything between the wood and the tank?
 
Also no matter how good you make the top of the stand it will not be PERFECT with out defects..
SO the foam will absorb the defects so, like Seth said, will take out pressure points that will cause damage in the long run.
And a little more insulation for those cold winter nights.LOL

they didn't even know they had ceiling tiles (egg crate)
those guys (most) don't know what they sell.
 
I went to a foam rubber/upholstery store on Roosevelt up in the U-district and found some grey material that was similar to what you see those foam exercise mats made out of. Worked well, was dark grey and cost me about $18 if I remember correctly.
