yeah, and where's mine? i didnt give info, but hell everyone knows me...

i couldnt believe personally that i was solicited to pay the $30 annual fee for membership after i was nominated for president...i almost just wanted to laugh and say whatever!! yeah, obviously i feel it's totally wrong to ask the bod volunteers who pay all f'ing year long to pay for club dues on top of it...

im also concerned about the packets that we hand out to the stores...i dont think they are properly being recorded into out database...and like me , not everyone wants to give out their info to a club...(i just didnt have mine at the time scince i just moved:))
i know last year me personally at barrier reef, i sold over well over 10 memberships, more like 20, and nobody told us that they must fill out the forms, all they said was make sure you send the cash....lol if they fill out the info, then great...mabye there's a way to make this process easier for the stores, as it is a real pain in the ass, i can tell you, when it's a busy saturday, you have 3 people waiting to talk to you, and you got to spend an extra 5 min doing this psas thing...not cool, and probably wont happen, they'll take their money, stuff it in the envelope, and give them their card...
and then kiss their 10% goodbye...
also, i know a worker at swc said they have a whole envelope of psas mem packets , but none have cards...not one...???? and when i was at indoor reef 2 weeks ago, he didnt have any. i think i read somewhere that these were going to be dropped off, did they make it? do all sponsor stores that sell mems have a full stock of the cards? i'd be happy to transport any if needed.

also, i think some club members who donate their time, locations, etc...should be rewarded with free memberships...at the discresion of psas bod...it only builds goodwill and a few memberships is no skin off our nose...
like say salsaking for allowing picnic on his premmises, or dang for meetings at his restaurant, etc..stuff like that. people who go above and beyond...

This was decided on purpose so that people can fill in the application form, mail it to BOD and we can mail them the card.

The problem not following this approach is that we do not have members information and it's not easy to keep track of who has membership and who does not.

I was thinking to open Paypal account on our website after the bank account is opened so thay people can pay online and future club members do not have to worry with it.

Mark,
We did decide membership for BOD is free, so you can get refund if you want. I had paid mine before this decision occured and just donated the $ to the club. Upon request we have given free membership in exchange for donations, Jason at CFI requested free membership for his sump and tank donation, we mailed out his card a few weeks ago.

However; I do not know if we want to do this in all cases, maybe just when requested? The club does need money to continue, membership fees is one way to bring it in. The membership is not much and I know personally the card saved me well over the fee I paid last year.

well, that in my mind completely defeats the purpose of having membership available in the stores....they need to walk away with that card in their hot little hand, right there, today! ...imo, that is absolutely paramount!!
what needs to happen is a simpler way to record the info, for instance, we should be responsible for collecting all that info, not the stores. they should just merely be responsible for recording the new member's email address, that's it. and then to "activate" your new psas account, you go online to thepsas.org and add all your info, at the leisure of the new member. but, we already have the email addy via the store, which is the real asset. and, instead of the store having to send off the envelope in the mail, mabye we should have a representative of psas visit the store every month to get the packets and converse face to face with the manager/owner about how things are going. this would be applicable to the local stores we all already visit anyway, but not the stores that are out of area. but having the stores mail the packets isnt a big deal really...just a consideration and opportunity for psas to be in contact with local sponsors on a regular basis, if were probably stopping by anyway for periodical drygoods and such, then no skin off our nose.

i agree, it should be only a very limited, small number of people, if any, who might be applicable for this, or even when just when requested...i was unaware we already did that :)

I see your point. quick questions:

1. How do we keep track of how many memberhsip stores has sold? (One Idea: keep serial # on it)

2. how do we ensure we're getting all the money?

3. How would we ensure that someone is going to all LFS?

The problem with picking up the packets is that we recieved feedback from some of the sponsors that in the past that did not occur often enough and they did not want to collect the money and have it sitting around, so we did self addressed envelopes this year.

Only a few select stores have cards as we did not want to spend the $$ to stock up every store, especially when some of them do not educate there employees enough that the member can even get the discount, much less the card.

I think paypal through the website is a good option, we could redistribute the business card (like in Marks other post) to the stores and get people to go to the website to join.

BR tried to sell me a card for several months for the discount but I resisted, it was an interesting speaker that finally inspired me to join the club. None of the other stores ever even mentioned the PSAS to me, so as far as I am concerned we would waste money giving them cards as you have to know about it to ask.

My $0.02

1. & 2. a one page tally sheet at each store that the store employees enter the email addy on. that way we know how many joined and how much money were owed. and we can check against the card amounts. for the future yes, we should print #'s on the mem cards, it's a nominal extra fee when printing.

3. we would have to correlate right here on bod forum every month who has gone where, and which stores need to be contacted via phone to retreive email addy's

all good points...
i just really love the idea that instantly, the perspective members can have a membership and walk out with a card, i might be overplaying it's importance.
i understand it's extra work for the employees, but i think it really helped our numbers last year...if only there was the info to see...:)

Mark,
I believe paypal would do the job you want. Instant gratification, right:)?

For 2nd, it depends on LFS to honor that there's a new member and give them instant discount. But Kris is right, LFS usually do not mention PSAS (hence the need of the poster) and not very active in sending out money (hence the need of self stamped envelopes).

very true,
he wont admit it, but cy HATED us mentioning the psas membership and then giving then 10% off instantly...which i did all the time:)
people would ask, hey can i get a discount?? and i 'd say no, but you can joing psas and get 10% off at every local reef store, and i'll honor it today...:)

Ok, I flew through this as fast as I could on break. Can we number cards and then add information on bottom of card saying please call to activate your card? Ask where member bought card? If a store wanted to, they could pocket money easily for membership. I do not think it was done. But it could happen.

OH BOY!!!!!!!!
Last week, hours before I left town for work, Bob was in the area and dropped off three membership envelopes. Two have the old form and $25. The third, has $30 but no information. Just money.

It seems we have some serious issues to work out. Any idea what store is telling everyone there is a $25 fee for the year?

Any suggestions on how to mail the $30 sender a card without a form?

i'll be talking care of this soon, i have talked to cy at barrier, and i think for now, we just need to provide the sponsor stores who sell our memberships with a clipboard and list that just has name and email for them to fill out. on the back of the list we write how many physical cards we leave, when we go to pick up money, we just switch out the list for a fresh one and write down the amount of cards on hand on the new list....simple

so we'll need to purchase some clipboards, and some cardholders for the business cards, and come up with a simple spreadsheet that just has psas at the top, and then name and email for new mems to fill out. i can do this and save recipt to be reimbursted.
almost done on the business cards too, so those will be ready to go off to a printer, anybody know a good card printing company?
